I have a new 2008 VW Rabbit (love it!). On the dash in the information area, there's text that reads: Speed Warning ___ mph.

I can't find anything in the manual that tells me how to set this. I'm assuming it's supposed to alert me when I go over a certain speed limit but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to set it and, so far, I'm finding zilch in the manual.

Anyone know how this feature works?

Thanks in advance for your help!

While vehicle is running, use control stalk on the right side press the + or - buttons on the end til the MFD displays speed warning, press the ok button, press the + or - buttons to select the desired speed. Press ok again, a warning tone will sound when you exceed the speed warning.

OMG! There's a GOLDMINE of stuff there in addition to setting the speed warning. I'm not sure but it looks as though it also shows you your average speed during a trip OR was it showing me my average mpg per mile? Maybe both; I can't tell.

I can't believe the manual completely ignores this incredibly valuable function.

Thank you for educating us on the speed setting. If it's not too much trouble, can you educate us on the other settings. There's a lot there and it's not all entirely user friendly.

Is there nowhere on the web (other than this terrific site) to find out this kind of information? What the heck was VW thinking not telling us about this stuff, eh?

Basically you get two trip meters, an instant one, which resets itself if you turn the car off and leave it alone for an hour or so. The other you reset manually. Both trip meters have speed warnings, avg speed, average mpg, instantaneous MPG, miles til empty and of course the trip meter.

The theta symbol ø designates an average meter. There is also a setup screen you can access but I have not messed with the features in there much. I know you can change the language, region, and I think you can turn the horn off when you activate the alarm.

I've been thinking of doing just such a post, Kiser (for my part, as a way of giving back to the community here. Though, I feared my efforts would be lacking and, generally, not up to the task:)).

Given the complete lack of MFD info VW gives us Bunny owners it seems to me that a MFD "sticky" would be a fantastic addition.

This feature was not supposed to be in the Rabbit, thus why it isn't in the owners manual. Also, I played around with it for awhile and some settings don't actually do anything.

The settings I think most people would use...

Door open option allows you to select what doors are unlocked with the remote. (All door sunlock or just driver door(All will open with second keyfob press))

Conv. Mode, turn auto door lock on/off when reaching a certain speed and whether all doors automatically unlock when you engage park.

ATA function, as already mentioned, controls whether the horn beeps or not when you lock the doors.

The winter tire option would only be used if you put on winter tires that have a different overall diameter.

You can change clock display to military time.
You can change the temp reading between F/C

As far as I can tell the Lights and Vision settings don't do anything, neither does Mirror Adjust. If somone knows if these settings acutally do something please let us know.

And yes, a MFD thread should be stickied.

I'm at work and I have little time, so I did not read through the entire thread. Sorry if this was already mentioned.

You can set the speed warning in two ways:

1) as mentioned in the first few posts you can set it at your current speed

2) you can set it at speeds in intervals of 5 (55, 60, 65, 70mph, ...)

Without being in my car I cannot accurately describe the process of how to do each, but it literally took me 2 minutes of fiddling to figure it out. I think it defaults to your current speed and then you can adjust it from that point. Good luck.

Mirror adjust lets you link both mirrors together - set it to Both or whatever, then try to move your left mirror down. You right mirror goes down with it. Handy for parking :).

Ohhhh, that's interesting...
