Just bought an '86 Cabriolet. 350K Kms. previous owner let it sit for maybe 18 months with fuel in the tank. I put in about 30 litres of 87 octane. Engine runs happily until there's any sort of load other than flat ground. Then it misses and loses power. A sample of the fuel was stinky. Have...

Just bought a '16 GTI and I was surprised to understand a couple of things regarding the model: 1. Supposedly the first scheduled service is 1 year or 10k and that includes oil change. I've run synth. in my Bimmers, Mercs and Porsches for years, but 10k??? That seems a bit much. Any thoughts...

Summer had us using Cenex Premium Diesel fuel and after a long bit of checking I was told the cetane rating is 'probably 48'. Why isn't the Cetane rating shown on the pump as Octane if for gasoline? I have been told European diesel is regularly much higher than US diesel as sold to us at the...

Hi all, first post. I have a 2013 Tiguan 2.0T. The dealer is recommending Fuel Induction service for my Tiguan with 20K miles on it. The service rep is telling me that with the new engines it's now a recommended service item. I live in Chicago and only use Premium 91+ octane gas. Is this...

I've recently moved from Minnesota (pretty much 0ft elevation) to Colorado Springs (6000+ft elevation!). I have heard that lower octane fuel can be used at higher altitude due to air density differences, but I'm not sure this would apply for a turbo engine. I'm no mechanic. Opinions?

Well I finally made the trip to KY and got my car tuned. I chose the 93 octane tune for an intake only NA car. I know many of you are tuned, and or turboed, but for those of you on the fence about a tune, this is a little insight for you. First of all, C2's crew are a very informative and...

I currently own a 2009 VW Tiguan. I have had it in the shop 2 different times for a check engine light. The first time the dealer told me I had not been running premium gas, and there was bad gas; had to get a new fuel pump. This time I have been running 93 octane, from a local Sunoco. The...

Hello: I purchased a 2011 Jetta with the 2.5L engine about a year and a half ago. I have always used premium gas even though it says regular can be used. I recently changed to regular gas and noticed the engine pinging on acceleration. Is this a problem with the car, or does it take a while for...
