Well the NY teams don't have cities in their names and that's why I was confused. So I figured that people just picked a team to be loyal to, based on what franchise they grew up rooting for. It's weird how some teams are for a whole state and some teams are for cities.

Most Jets fans used to be from Queens and LI since the Jets used to play at Shea Stadium until 1983, while Giants fans were more from Manhattan and northern Jersey since they used to play at Yankee Stadium and moved to the Meadowlands in 1976 (the Jets moved there in 1984). I'm sure there are Patriot fans in Upstate NY since Boston isn't that far and the Bills have sucked since going to the SB four times... and losing all of them.
