I'm not sure if Royal Purple meets the VW 502.00 standard or not. If it says that it does, can't hurt to use it. I'd probably just stick with Castrol myself.

yeah i'm gonna stick with Castrol now

after reading up on Royal Purple it says increase in horsepower/torque compared to regular mineral oils

since Castrol is synthetic as well there wouldn't probably be any gains.
so i guess i answered my own question. how do i delete this thread?? lol

Royal Purple is really good oil. I've used it in both supercharged and turbochared vehicles with great results. However, I have not run it in my Rabbit just like DJ stated because it is not 502.00 spec.

I would Suggest Amsoil if you dont use Castrol. Amsoil is one of the best Synthetics on the market, and meets or exceeds all manufactures specs including VW 502 and 505. I run it in my goldwing and used to run it exclusively in my Highly modified Pulling tractor.

even tho rp is probably the superior of the two oils, i'd use what vw recommends; castrol syntec 5w40 or mobil-1 0w40. my new gti actually says castrol on the oil cap. that's what i'll be using...

I use what my oil analysis shows the least amount of engine wear and bearing wear. Castrol syntec 0w30...AKA German castrol....ONLY castrol made in germany.

according to film strength tests motul makes horrid synthetic oil...Royal Purple and Amsoil are always on top when it comes to oil tests. If in question, call Royal Purple and they will be able to guide you to a product they sell that is approved for VW use. I was about to look for myself 4 i am about to reach my 5000mile mark within a month and a half from now.
