Window Tint Legal No Matter What

Hey guys so i just heard about this from a friend and thought it would be a good idea to tell everyone. I know alot of you may not tint all your windows because of state laws or whatever but... Heres the thing if you have glasses or dont even need glasses all you have to do is go to your eye doctor and complain about the sun glare while driving and he will write a note for you allowing you to have any % tint you want..

Here goes your theory, unless you want to remove your tint every night.

There is a bit of a trick we use up here.

As far as i understand, in Ontario, any tint is allowed in the rear (come on, limos have 5%)
and no tint is allowed up front.

    However:

if the tint in the rear is darker. not dark enough to look stupid
and you can be seen....somewhat, in the drivers seat
    you should be alright

I have 32% up front, and 20% in the rear. this is what the dealership recomended, i've had no problems with police officers, and it looks very sharp. i'll take some pictures this week. I'm ashamed to admit that my rabbit is filthy right now, and it takes some preperation to clean Black Uni.

I am getting the bunny tinted tomorrow. 35% is the limit in NC. Debating as to whether I should go 30%, in the hopes that it's not aggregious (sp?) enough to get noticed/ticketed.

My rear windows are stupidly dark (5%)...but cops can't tell because my fronts are 35% and they look stock compared to the limo tint in the back.

    My genius idea.

Besides, SoCal cops don't care about tint violations these days...60% of cars out here are tinted illegally...cops can't catch up. Unless you have limo all around, and I know a guy with medium tint on his windsheild!

I have a friend who is an optometrist here in MD and she will not sign the form for any customers for the MD sticker (the sticker is issued and goes between the glass and tint so it can't be removed). She prescribes sunglasses so you don't have problems while not driving either.

The way I found around it is by registering my vehicle in another state. A state's vehicle laws are only for the vehicles registered in that state. Federal law mandates that, and it also mandates one state can not enforce another state's laws. If vehicle laws could be enforced by states where the vehicle is NOT registered then California would not have a tourism industry.

In my old car cops would pull out and follow me bc it was slammed with limo tint, and open headers. After they saw my tags they would leave me alone. Only once did I get pulled over but obviously nothing happened.

**ninja edit** The only way I know of being able to register a vehicle in another state is by a)being in the military or b) owning land in another state and claiming that property as your primary residence

I had tint on my Golf MkIII, got pulled over once with the officer checking out the tint. The front was lighter than the back, so, after some thought on it he let me go without a ticket.

Just got mine tinted this morning. OTP guy said he could do 30 or <. In shop told me only 30. Maybe I look like a nark. I figured 30 might not be much darker and I heard they were a quality shop from several friends. Initial impression is very good quality, but 35 still seems kind of light.

I've been driving around with 20% in Florida (all over FL for that matter, and part of GA), with my last 3 cars, and I've NEVER been hassled by a cop. They pretty much just wanna see a profile, because when the tint is too opaque they think it's a crackhead who stole it, tinted it and is right now smoking crack while driving. Apparently that happens a lot, according to a cop friend of mine.
20 in the back, 35 up front is the legal limit, but everyone pretty much goes 20 percent no matter what around here- it looks great, and does a good job of keeping you and the interior cooler...

    IL Illinois Window Tint

After reviewing all the threads I could on ROC regarding tint as well as other forums online regarding enforcement in IL I went ahead with LLumar tint on everything but the windshield.

I chose to do a slight two-tone to avoid negative attention from cops with 20% on the hatch & rear windows and 35% on the front two windows. Most of those who have had tint all around were suggesting that as long as there was contrast between the back and front windows you would avoid enforcement.

The work was completed Friday 5/01; It took Illinois State Police 4 days to pull me over on 5/5 and inform me that it was illegal to have any tints on your front windows in IL. Maybe just bad luck.

Anyways, there is a clause in the law that allows for a medical exemption if your physician deems it necessary to treat an ailment; the law directs you to the secretary of state website for the necessary forms...Too bad they have removed the web page containing the information needed.

So the reason for my post is to provide the form needed to apply for the Illinois "WT" license plates that they have decided they will not readily provide that makes any window tint legal. This form was provided by the DMV. I've also included a sample of the plates for kicks (notice the blacked out lettering). I hope this helps some of you out there. Bureaucratic bastards...

I'll try to get pics of the tint up soon as well as letting you know how difficult the application process was.

iv got 3% all around on my car. Our local cops dont care to much down here in GA; although i did get pulled over by a state trooper and ticketed by him for it. I plan on putting 32% (legal) on the front two and leaving the rest at 3%. The laws state one thing, but ultimately its about which cop has the stick up his ass that particular day

Thats great, but good luck persuading your doctor/optometrist to commit perjury just so that your car will look easier on the eye.

I just got my Rabbit tinted yesturday 15% front and sides, 5% rear. The legal limit in Ontario is 15% sides. I have photophobia (eyes are sensitive to light), and they will not let me tint front window they just gave me polarized sunglasses.

It rly does depend on the cops in the town youre driving in, if theyre bord or not. I used to have 35/20 on my last car, never got hassled one bit for it but then again if i saw pop id roll my window down. My gf lives in a town where every turn is a cop so im more leary about tinting now, if you want to have a good looking ride with tint and no tickets, get just the back tinted, if you dont care, go for limo on every window.
