What did your salesman try to talk you into

I was wondering if anyone had the annoying salesman who tried to talk them into anything BUT the Rabbit.

    My personal experience:

After talking to him about the Rabbit I wanted (but he didn't have) he told me to consider the Jetta.
I said, "no... that's okay. I'm not interested"
he then said, "they are really nice cars and just an upgrade from the Rabbit"
    I replied with, "I don't like them"
he was now getting frustrated and said, "why? what's wrong with them?"
I said, "look, it's a girl car. I don't want to be driving around in a car that everyone knows is for girls"
he said, "that's not true at all. I drive one"
I said, "i don't know what to tell you."

and I left and went to another dealership.

Kind of the same story. At one dealership they didn't understand why I would take a regular 4 door Rabbit over leather-interior loaded Jetta...

I had a salesmen tell me there's no such thing as a 2 door with armrest. When i explained the ipod dock option, he said the connection is in the glovebox and not the armrest. he was quite rude.

    so i dropped it.

next thing, he told me there are no 08 two doors left (because he had none). He said if i wanted a 2 door, Id have to wait for the 09's, and it'll be months before they're in. meanwhile the dealership i had just left had 2 sitting in the lot.

I'll tell you which dealership isn't getting my business.

LOL thats a funny story. I didn't get any bad treatment at all or any pushing of another car. The sales guy was younger than me. I think he said he was 19 (i was 24 at the time) i did feel sorry for him. he was stuck with me for the full day and it was in aug and it had to be like 100 plus degrees outside and he was wearing suit pants and a button up with tie and i was in shorts and a wife beater. poor kid was soaked.

That's funny because I test drove a 2 dr with an armrest. They will say anything to change your mind.

gunther vw on 441 in south florida, near coral springs

my sales guy was named Jorge; the best sales guy person i've EVER met

i dont think i got a "great deal" and im sure he made money off me, BUT, this guy deserved it...

no bs, no run arounds; straight answers and no pressure; i think he had passed his quota long before i walked in.... another sales guy walked up to me while i was looking at the rabbit and starting talking about the jetta also.. how i could have it cheaper, plus a sunroof, 4 doors etc etc... then jorge, was like no, he wants a rabbit... (well, actually i wanted the gti but was financially limited)... he even threw in floormats (i know, no biggie, but still...)

anyway, i would definately buy another car from that guy in the future...

but to answer the thread, noone tried to upsell me that day

Nothing. I demanded they find my car I wanted... 2dr 10 speaker, esp. I demanded monster mats and the cargo liner. Then I demanded it be sold to me for 15,600. They tried to sell me the paint protection for 1500, I declinded and asked the detailer where to get a free bottle. I got everything I wanted.

We talked about the GTI but he never tried to sway the sale. He asked me if I considered rims and saw what they offered as OEM options. I declined, and he offered up his employee pricing on any Drivers Gear parts I wanted if I decided to go with the lowering springs that we also talked about. Never tried to talk me into anything. Now the finance guy would not stop about VW finance, I ended up telling him I already had financing and didnt give a crap about what he could give me.

I wonder why they're pushing the Jetta so hard...

A girl my wife works with went in to test drive the Rabbit and the salesman wouldn't stop talking about the Jetta the entire time.

I didn't have that kind of thing happen to me, and I was pretty straightforward with what I wanted. The last time I stopped by though, the salesman asked me if I was ready to trade in for a GTI

I think they make more off the Jetta, which would make sense why they try to push it. Commission and all.

I live in the Pittsburgh area and went to 3 rivers vw... Salesman was Tim Bombash. Awesome guy. I had test drove a rabbit earlier that week and when I went in he met me at the door and asked what he could do, I said "I am buying a car today, I'll take the rabbit for $16,000 with the monster mats. He had an appointment with a couple 2 hours after I arrived for a test drive, so for alittle while he juggled me and them, but they had an appointment so I didn't mind. But we sat in his office for a while getting my monthly's where I wanted them and seeing about my trade-in and talking about warranties and all. This guy was awesome. Now the one dealer I went to (rorich vw) blew. Salesman told me that it would be more like 16,200. I thought I would be able to hagle him down alittle. I just wanted a black basic..NO extras. He had one and tried to sell me on one with options. I kept saying no, but he kept going back and was just rude about it. I finally got his happy with selling me the black basic. Then he was stuck on the $200. So I said "I'll go somewhere else and get one for $16000. He said "are you really going to let $200 keep you from getting this car?" I said "no, you're letting $200 lose you the sale." He followed me to my car and gave me his card and smuggly said "when you don't find what you're looking for, maybe I will still have this car... As you go through life more, you'll realize how you buy a car when you're grown up." (he had seemed to have that air about him that he was 45 and I was 24 so I was just young and stupid). I would love to tell his name to keep those away from him, But after he walked back inside I walked back in and in the middle of the sales floor tore up his card and threw it at him and said "go eff yourself." the best was he thought I was gonna hit him or something so he was kinda limboing back as if ready to duck a punch.

My salesman kept nagging me to "just test drive a jetta, you'll love them..." So to get him off my case I took one out and I felt like I was drivng a boat(I know they're not that big) But I just felt uncomfortable driving it.. So we got back and I took a bunny out for a test drive and all the salesman said was "Yeah, you were right... You'd be better off in a Rabbit..." As I took off like a bat out of hell down the on ramp. He was not knowledgable about any of the mechanics of the rabbit, I actually knew more about it going into the conversation than he did...

Called different Dealers, found the one i wanted.. got it for what we wanted.

i ahve only bought 5 cars from dealers. my 2nd 85 cabriolet, my 77 dodge aspen, my 77 dodge Power Wagon, my 90 GLI, and my 93 Passat. never had a problem with the dealers. the ONE time i had an issue i had stopped at a Chevy dealer to get a part for my Caprice. i was diving my 93 passat which i had just gotten runnign again. the first thing out of the sales guys face was, "trading in that crappy VW on a real car?" needless to say i havent seen him at that dealer since. i think he got fired after i talked to teh sales manager. some peole just have no respect for anyone.
