I am new to this forum and VW's. I just purchased a 1980 Rabbit Convertible. I also purchased a rolled 1984 Rabbit for a donor.
I am going to switch out the motor and 5 speed. The 80 has a 4 speed.
Where do you look up a Vin or engine number to see that year?
Thanks in advance.
NTVS. hope you found the info you neede on the website that was recommended to you-cabby-info has alot of good info and it sound like the previous poster has been around the block with the vws a few times. good info and contacts are indespinsible. Didnt understand exactly what you wanted as far as vin numbers, someone to tell what year or what engine you have or where to look.Hope this info isnt redundant but the engine numbers on the gas engine are stamped into the block either near the upper coolant hose fitting or on the left side of the block below the head....on the diesel its stamped on the block between the vac. pump and inject. pump.... and the size is stamped on frt. center of the block... on the trans its stamped on bottom of the bellhousing in the center. on the trans the first two numbers are your trans id numbers and the rest are the build date.
Your vin plate numbers located front drivers side dash or the pass. side strut housing. your third in the vin which is probably a w is vehicle type, 4th number is body style, 5th number is engine and 7&8 are model. .. these are a few numbers that are important to you...let me know if you want the rest.. hope this helped
