Looking at getting a 2010 gti

I am looking at getting a 2010 gti I have one picked out. It's a 4 door 6 speed with 62,000 miles on it. I am new to the gti. I don't know if this guy is trying to scare me away from one or not. he's the only one in town with one. He was telling me all kinds of bad things with them like tires need rotated every 2500 miles and u need special oil and filters. Plus there's lots of up keep with them. There not a good daily driver you can't drive them in the snow. Is any of this stuff true or are they really a good car. I have test drove the car and it runs and shifts great looks and sounds good other than the rims being curbed

if the guy selling it has told you this information, believe him.

you can do the research if you really want the overall report card of these vehicles as daily drivers.

if you know how to turn a wrench, then by all means look into it.

now if you like the body style, look into a mkvi golf for a daily driver. they can be purchased at a much lower price.

    welcome to the VWOC.

then you've got to pay to play.

if you end up purchasing it, monitor very closely the oil level. these engines can easily consume 1qt per 1000 miles.

also look into setting aside $800 for a manual carbon buildup removal (intake manifold removed). this can come as early as 30k - 50k miles.

I'm also a new GTI owner (2010 2.0T MK6). These cars require fully synthetic oil which is more expensive than trad oil. Front wheel drives always do better in snow. I'm using mine for a daily driver. No issues.

Thank god I live in Pennsylvania, no emissions checks on diesels, so my EGR is disconnected, no
    carbon build up...

Re: Looking at getting a 2010 gti

I wouldnt be too worried about it in the snow. Its front wheel drive and front wheel drive cars are great in the snow. Put a good set of tires on it or better yet, put a set of snow tires on it and youll be fine. The only issue with snow much be ground clearance but I wouldnt be too worried about it.
As for the upkeep, its not a Toyota or a Honda but IMO VWs arent as bad as people make them out to be. Sure, they require maintenance but all cars do.
