I wanted to know what would be the best brake pads and rotors out there now. I drive a lot but no racing and I just want to upgrade by brakes (ya know, drilled rotors & good pads like hawk). If anyone can help, that would be awesome!
well, a good set up is all in what, exactly, you're looking for. you can get a set that has a great bite, but doesn't work until warm or chews up your rotors. you can get a set that's kind to rotors, and works well cold, but doesn't have a very good bite. there's also rotor dust to think about.
how much inconvenience are you prepared to live with for these brakes? that's the real question. if it were me, my limit would be the hawk street/autocross compound. any more and they're gonna be a pain in the ass to live with. oh, yeah, the race pads grind and squeal, too, it's great.
i've been avoiding cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors like the plague. they didn't increase performance for me when i tested them. in my opinion, they're worthless in every instance except a show car.
like other performance parts, choosing brakes is always a compromise. a balance, if you will, between stopping like a maniac and dealing with grinding, squealing, excessive dust, destroying rotors and sloppy cold performance.
if you're not sure what you want, start in the middle somewhere and evaluate your purchase...
good luck...
