    Swap standard radio for premium

Is there a write up or how to for swapping from the standard radio to the premium?

I am specifically wondering if my rabbit with standard has all the wiring for the premium HU, and what do I do about the code the radio will ask for?

    Thanks for the help! SW

The unit will connect with no problems, just make sure you have the code! The radio will not work without it. I did the install myself and had zero problems. Here's the DIY : http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=693

Yep... changed mine too... no problems whatsoever.
Very good upgrade - especially if you can get the radio for a good price.

    A, Justin is back!!!

you will have to remove the temp control trim also. behind it are the screws for the radio itself.
I'm talking like I did it , but I haven't yet. I'm ready to change my radio with a Kenwood nav unit.

    Congrats to you too!
I gave a lot of thought to both the Jetta SportWagen and the Tiguan... but we decided that we couldn't wait for either of them to come out... plus the wife absolutely LOVES the Passat.

I just have a couple questions:
    1) Would you need to replace the antenna? All the cars I've seen with satellite radios (XM or Sirius) have a little stub-looking thing for an antenna rather than a standard antenna.
    2) My Rabbit has the iPod adapter; would I lose the ability to use that if I swapped my stereo for the premium stereo?

    1) Nitro is still busy writing up a DIY for the XM/Sirius swap, and yes you will need to add or swap antennas
    2) the ipod adapter will work on the other radio as well

If you didnt get the code when you bought the radio your pretty much screwed. You'll need to contact the seller and get the VIN for the car it was originally installed in and hope the dealership will give you the code w/ that information.

No problem. Most of the sellers you encouter will have the radio card with the code on it. Just make sure they have the code or it will be a PITA on your end.

My dealer needed the serial number on the back of the radio to find the code. If the seller has the radio card ask them to make sure the V.I.N # on the card matches the V.I.N on their car!!

yes do not buy one without the code. It might be stolen if they claim they can't get you the code.

I've done this as well and it's very easy to swap out. I wish I could easily acquire the wiring harness for adding the factory Sirius sat. module.
