To sell or not to sell ????

I can't bring myself to do it.

OK maybe I can, having driven it today for the first time in 3 weeks having since received my Rabbit.

The brakes, steering, clutch and many other things are just horrendous comparatively speaking. I love my Trek though don't get me wrong. I'm just not sure I want to invest more in this car when I have a new one I could go relatively crazy with.

    Deetz:
    One Owner
    97 MKIII Golf Trek
    2.0L 4CYL
    162,000 Miles (almost)
    Bloody Nose
    Minor body damage
    Decent interior (minus driver seat)

Eh here are a few snaps after a quick spray down of the exterior.

I know nice passenger side rub strip. It can be easily glued back and I have the other driver side missing one. (I think)

Be honest. You won't hurt my feelings, perhaps the discarded cars, though.

Strip it out, make it a fun track/weekend car. Invest in suspension ($800 or so) and lighten the hell out of it and I think it'll be worth more to you than what you'd get from selling it. Just my .02

If you needed a tax break donation is always a good idea. Plus they mark the value down way higher than it is worth. If your planning on modding the Rabbit I would just sell/donate it. If you want a toy to play around with then yeah keep it.

If it were me, I'd go with a pretty firm "dont sell" - just me though .

I would say keep it, throw a few bux for new mouldings and do a VR6 swap or a turbo swap into it. That will be your fun project and your rabbit will be the DD.

so the man with the plan, mr. nitro.

How about a rough guesstimate? on what I would be looking at? with either scenario.

I understand I wouldn't hold you to any quote. Just wondering ballpark is all.

oh, and just for comparison, my mom sold her 97 golf K2 in pretty good condition, about 120k miles, last march for $500. this is why i won't sell mine, it's so not worth it with the amount i've put in it.

What??? $500??? That's it? Was it traded in or sold to a friend?

I was looking at saturn awhile back and just shooting the breeze and asked how much the would give me on trade in and they would have given me $500. They also printed out a kelly or bb sheet for me and resale they had was between $2400-$3150. I have already talked to one of my former employees and he is ready to pay me $2000 right away. (well half financed by me) but he asks me 3 or 4 times a week if I've made up my mind.

I really don't feel that 2G is asking too much. I had planned on putting it on craigslist for 2500 if I did attempt to sell it.

I even had a sales person at the dealership ask me how much I wanted for it, because I was being smart and when I asked if I could leave it on their lot for a day or so if they had any offers on it to let me know. The sales guy was pretty sure he could get at least 2 for it. We even rallied it around the block with him driving.

No way I'd let it go for only $500. Really the only reason I decided to pull the trigger on the Rabbit is because of the expected new little man in the family. I was planning on driving the Golf for at least a few more years.

If you don't have another car, you won't have a multi-car insurance discount. Unless you still have that Mustang :P

Still have the Mustang, and my ladies Saturn Vue. Plus I get a few other discounts too. Home owner and business owner. A good point though.

Liability on the Golf is only 19 a month so it's not really that big of a concern.
