My 1974 super beetle is getting terrible gas mileage ( less than 15mpg), recently tuned up but didn't help much, new tires and oil change. Any ideas anyone would be greatly appreciated.
When it had it's tune up were the exhaust emissions tested?
If the CO is normal or the spark plugs aren't black then you could have a leak.
You didn't say how it runs or starts.
Now that you mention it, it seems to run pretty rough until it warms up, also have had the carb worked on because it was running too rich, by the way what gas mileage should I be getting if it was running ok?
What did they do to the carb to fix it?
Has the engine itself been checked including valve clearances?
I believe you should be around 30 mpg, but I've never actually measured one.
The mechanic that worked on it put what he called shems in the carb and it seemed to run better but the gas mileage is still what I call bad.
