My first road trip with the new Rabbit is over. I was anxious to see what kind of mileage it would get on the open road, even though the car had only 3000 kms on the clock.
I filled the tank right up to the pump shutoff, then drove at speeds averaging 115 kph for 100 klicks and then gassed up again....and noted that it only took 9-odd liters to drive that distance. After another 200 kms, I topped up again - and got 18 liters in.
So, even though the city mileage sucks right now, I have no complaints about the highway mileage. And it's supposed to get better as the engine wears in, right?
PS...that Rabbit really kicks ass on the highway. It's very easy to creep up to "oh crap" speeds. I had it up to 145 kph before I noticed my wife's knuckles were turning white. And there's a really cool rrrrrrrrrrrrush when you nail the gas when passing.
All in all....very impressed. Looking for excuses to go on the next trip.
