replacing sun roof

couldnt find much in bentley about replacing the sun roof and rear hatch seals on the 82 rabbit, any good write ups? suggestions on adhesives to use/not use? any shared experience is appreciated.

There is butyl cord at any vw dealer. it's called butyl cord but is also known as dum-dum or sunroof sealer. It comes in a large coil and isn't all that expensive.

so i can use this butyl cord on both sunroof and rear hatch seals? and how do i apply it? should i lay it on thin, on all contact surfaces? i opened a package of the butyl cord in autozone and didnt find it to be very sticky at all, and i found out that it doesnt cure. am i not better off with one of the 3M weatherstrip adhesives that come out of a tube and cure?
