I have an 83 rabbit that will start, if I get on the gas it will rev but it wont stay alive. The cold start injector is spraying, I checked the o2 sensor. There are some vacuum, hoses that look pretty nasty that I am going to replace and when i pulled the IAC valve, it was open, but those hoses also looked a little "meh" and i noticed that were the body is riveted together it has a lot of wiggle in it. Now, I am new to Volkswagens, which is why i bought the car, but I'm pretty sure that's not normal. Any guesses or help? Thanks a lot, it is much appreciated.
RE-place all the vacuum hoses is a good very good first step. Then on the back of hte throttle body is a brass screw, if you can turn that screw by hand, then count the turns that it takes to remove it and get thee to a hardware store and get a new o-ring as it too is a vacuum leak. VW's hate un-metered air.
Yes I moved the thread to a more proper sub-forum.
