Hi all, Great looking site, Please be gentle im new to VW lol.
Ok picked my Passat up yesterday, "W", 2000, Saloon 1.8T. Number plate lights are not working, Fuse checked ok, Bulbs check ok, Been told this is a common issue on this model but no cures as yet, Any ideas ? Thnx in advance.

The sockets for the lights get rusted and corroded. Remove them and clean the mating surfaces of corrosion really well.

Thanks, Checked that too. Looking like its a broken wire somewhere as no voltage at the connectors ;-(
**SOLVED** Ok found the problem, The wiring that runs out the bootlid in the sleeving the problem, Right on the bend where it runs near the Hinge i noticed it was kinked, I removed the outer sleaving and found the Brown wire completely snapped !! Resoldered it and now all the lights work fine, Hope that helps others, Maybe a common issue due to the continuous bending.
