    Hypermiling question

I'm sure most of you have heard of the term hypermiling. As of last week, using some hypermiling techniques, I was able to achieve my all time high of 63.67 mpg in my diesel 4 speed Rabbit. My question is, does anyone know if I could pick up a few extra mpgs if I were to kill the engine while coasting, considering it's a diesel? I usually just shift to neutral to coast. Any suggestions?

    Re: Hypermiling question

I can't say this for certain as I don't know about Diesel's but I would be cautious of killing the engine because of losing power brakes and power steering. You can still stop and steer but For a few extra MPG Im not sure if its worth it unless your on a hill for like 60 miles plus LOL

Sweet - Make it so then Just don't turn the key all the way to the back position because the steering wheel could lock also then its a real mess

I wouldn't sacrifice my well being to gain a few mpg. Braking is not the only way to avoid a problem. What if you need to apply power to avoid something? You can rationalize it however you like, but it's not worth it imo.
