Im having some water leak into the car on the passenger side and i think the drain is clogged. I cant seem to find the exit of the drain. I think i may have to pull the front fender to get to it. Can anyone confirm this or show me the exit location? Thanks.

Before you start tearing your car apart you should confirm the drain is your problem. Open the sunroof all the way and pour some water in the left front and right front drip tray. You will see the water come out under the car in a few moments. Pour about a cup or so down there but be sure you do not overflow the track. If BOTH sides drain out, that isn't your problem. If they drain out but water still leaks in on the headliner or water runs down the a pillar and onto the floor then you need to drop that side of the headliner and reseal the drain tube onto the sunroof.

I shoved a cable down the drain tubes and everything was clear on both sides. The driver side drains perfectly but the passenger side just fills up the drain tube and the water starts to back up into the sunroof drip tray. Some of the backup actually overflows the tray and makes its way to the drivers side. I think the end of the tube needs to be unclogged, i just need to get to it.

Why didnt you just say you did that in your first post? Remove the a pillar and use pliers to remove the drain nipple from where the dash meets glass.

do i remove the entire rubber piece or just cut off the little piece at the end on the right side and reinstall?

cut the very tip to open it up a little. clean it and reinstall. You may use a little silicone spray or grease on the end to help install the rubber if its difficult.

ok water is flowing out of the tube now! thanks!
now i have part 2 of the leak...its on the bottom side of the drip tray under the headliner. i pulled the visor and grab handle to get a better look and found that it was leaking right behind this piece.http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/208/img1423a.jpg/
i just need to peel back half of the headliner to really see whats going on.

Is it leaking at the seam of the two parts ofplastic of the drip tray? if so, there is something called butyl cord, aka dum dum or sunroof sealant, and you can reseal it.

can i get that at home depot or pep boys or do i have to order from VW?

Any vw dealer has massive spools of it. It's been used for several recalls over the years and techs use it for various repairs. They probably won't even charge you for a small wad.

thanks nitro, got any tips or tricks to make removing the headliner a little less frustrating? I took off most of the hardware but its not budging loose around the sunroof area.

Open the roof all the way. That black trim as seen from the top is snapped into the headliner. use a plastic pry tool and remove it. Once you do this, the liner will fall out.
