1.7 gas in a1981 rabbit. Just had the alternator rebuilt due to some bad ground issues. Replaced the grounds and just put in a new charged battery. Am getting a reading of 13.46 at the battery. (13.8 at the alternator) I think the alternator is a 55 amper. My question is is this enough voltage to sustain a charge in the battery? I expected to see + 14 volts. I have a couple of grounds and leads yet to clean up. Could these be causing some of it?
Thanks,
Jim
I would replace the power cables from the alternator to the battery, as you are dropping a half a volt. That is if you have replaced the negative cables from the battery to the frame, then from the frame to the engine/tranny.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee and Cars all have in common?
They all Start with good GROUNDS.
Replace all of them that you can, 99 percent of flakiness will disappear.
