i just got done with doing a quite a bit of major work to my rabbit. i just did my head gasket with valve seals, timing belt and pully, water pump, spark wires, and oil pan gasket. after finishing this work my car started of fairly quickly but died a couple times then finally got it running. the problem is now everytime i start it i have to start it and drive right away or it will die and will continue dying for about a mile or 2 if i take my foot of the gas, past that it will usually stay idling.
at first i thought it was becaust i didnt put the cold start hose back on because i brok it and cant find a replacemnt but that wouldnt be this bad... could i have the vacum lines messed up or what else? really want it running top for a vw drive
also it has 107000 miles on the working odometer. the o2 sensor light is on and my girlfriend keeps complaining about the exhaust smelling strong could that effect it?
www.cabby-info.com for the vacuum lines.
And I would get a new cold-start.

When your oxygen sensor quits, the computer runs the engine at "full rich." The O2 sensor ligh goes on every 75,000 miles. It should be checked but is not necessarily bad. The light goes on regardless. If your engine is running too rich it could cause problems when starting cold and idling. If your auxilary air regulator is stuck in the closed position, it could also cause problems when the engine is cold. It should be open with a cold engine and gradually close as the engine warms up.
