Sure. Use the oil/water one off the turbodiesel, or get the adapter plate from a Volvo, make some lines and mount a generic one in front of the radiator.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Use a external oil cooler assembly, in the mk1 forum there is a DIY on how I did it. If you choose the water/oil one that is on a VW you have to by a pricey hose and a new water outlet flange.
If the water/oil cooler goes bad you can intermix oil in the a/f,,,,
Get the External sandwich plate type and had a heat exchanger behind the front of the grille. You will be a lot happier.
Anyone know what model/year volvo had the correct adapter plates for this application? my local junkyard has a ton of volvos and I'm too lazy to bring em home to try (and fail)
it was a 90 740T intercooler. If you look at the oil filter on the left and see a oil cooler behind it, that is gonna work.
