    APR intake

I just got my intake shipped and suspecting if it is possible for me to install it by myself..
I went to couple gurage and they all told me it's about 1 hour and cost around 100....
The cheapest I found is $85. Is it worthy?
I dont have the tools and I am not good at mechanical..
I have seen people talked about octane flash for the APR intake.. What's that?
Is that mean after i intall the intake I have to get certain type of gasoline ?
It didnt acuatlly say on the APR website though
Also.. how much would it cost to install four springs?
I live in Humboldt County, everything here is ridiculosely expensive.
A simple Oil change is no cheaper than $38... Down to LA,I've seen 15 ones
Ur.. Never knowt the labor is that expensive

You can do it yourself. All you will need is torx bits and security torx bits for a screwdriver and some channel locks/vice grips to reset the hose clamps. Not much to it. Just some time.

Definitely do it yourself. $15 worth of tools instead of 85-100 in labor.

    Re: APR intake

don't expect to pay less than $70 for the oil change for your rabbit. it is a full synthetic (VW 502.00 Spec) 6.2 quarts. which usually run $6-9 per quart, depending on promos.

if you have some decently strong hands and the right tools you can install your intake at home and save the cash. plan on having a real hydraulic jack to raise your car up to remove your driver side wheel. DO NOT attempt to do this with the emergency jack that is packed with your spare tire. DO give yourself a few hours (or an afternoon) so you can ask questions during breaks if needed.

the octane flash is not necessary to perform. it is however an optional reprogram/remap of your fuel and timing settings to increase horse power throughout the powerband, amongst a few other perks. you'll still get plenty of enjoyment from the CAI without the flash.

spring installations generally run up the labor costs. expect at least $250+ for labor, plus a few extra parts that need to be changed while they perform the installation.

Thanks for the knowledge of oil change and flash and cost of spring...
    And..
It seems not possible for me to do it by myself, I dont have a hydraulic jack and none of the other stuff/tools either...
Well, thanks.. Couple hours of labor=$85, I probably just let someone do the installation of intake then
I know it sounds stupid..but it's getting closer to finals(im in college)...no more spare time for wasting
I know I shouldnt been doing all those during the final weeks...
But because of some emotional problem,(I lost a very good friend) so I have to diverted my attention to something other than just the text books...
Cars are fun but..just so much money

sorry to hear about your recent loss. you've found a good community here. the members on here are really helpful. and yes, modifying our volkswagens is not the cheapest thing to do. but, if done in stages, it's a little easier to swallow. plus you always have a new mod to look forward to, rather than trying to do it all at once...

Too bad you're on the other coast. I'd install it for you for a case of beer at most.

Putting the engine cover back on is not necessary and won't harm anything. If you have an 07 or older Rabbit. The elbow for the stock intake system will have the Intake Air Temp Sensor (IAT). You'll need to find some place to zip tie the sensor to.

Ok thanks a lot, I have a 2007, and I tired the temp senor to another wire somewhere under the hood, hopefully it wont loose; I will try to tighten it more next time.

    Re: APR intake

won't hurt anything. you actually want fresh air hitting the filter area; it's part of the design/concept...

edit: you just don't want to submerge the filter in water...
