My wife and I finally picked up our Tiguan SE 4 Motion on Wednesday. I ran it around for about 50-60 miles overall on Thursday.
I don't see any of the shifting issues I've seen so many people complaining about. I know that our Tiguan wasn't produced until Dec - Jan, so maybe they changed something, our dealer told me at one point that they had halted production for a short period of time but I don't konw why or for what. Anyway, around 30-35mph I popped it into tiptronic and I was in 4th gear. I will admit to noticing a slight vibration when I was in that sort of speed range, but it only happened for maybe 2 or 3 seconds and then smoothed out. If I hadn't been looking for it because of reading all the posts, I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all. It didn't seem sluggish at low speeds like I've heard some people post about.
The wife and I love the car. That being said, we have had two little quirks, don't know if anyone else has experienced either of these.
First thing happened the first night. The wife was driving and dropped me off at a store, I ran in quick, did my business and came out. As she pulled up to pick me up, I noticed the one of the foglights was on but not the other. My first thought was "Great, we've got a light out already" and I said something to the wife and she tells me she didn't even turn the fogs on, then she did and they both came on. Then she turned them off and one stayed on while the other went out. They both went out when the high beams were turned on....odd. I figured, ok, I'd check the manual or toss a message up to ask if this was normal....some sort of weird oddball feature I never heard of before getting too riled up about it, but I couldn't get it to happen again yesterday or today.
Second thing, after the wife got gome from work tonight, she commented that she couldn't get hr phone to connect to the car. After asking her a few questions, I determined she didn't fully read the directions and that was the problem. I told her I'd take care of it, since I had fully read the directions and had successfully paired my phone with the car yesterday. So, we go out and get in the car, I put my key in and it wouldn't turn in the ignition. It would turn just a bit, then stick....so I'm like, WTF? I didn't want to get too rough with my wife's new car, so calmly I tried repeatedly, taking the key out, putting it back upside down, trying it again, still no luck. I look over the key, nothing seems damaged or out of what I think is ordinary. Told the wife to run back into the house and grab her key, same thing.....after giving it a few more tries, the frustration sets in and I give it a firm twist and it breaks free. Then it was fine, tried repeatedly again and no snags on either key....so still WTF? lol
Anyone else come across either of these? Both odd minor nuisances, I'm gonna give the dealer a call on Monday about them.
Other than these two things, the Tig is fantastic, comfortable interior, great features, plenty of pep. We love it. I'll get some pics up as soon as I have a nice day to take some, it's been raining the last three days.
Congrats on your new Tig.
The fog light issue I can't explain. If it hadn't happened again I wouldn't worry about it. As far as the ignition, it sounds like perhaps the steering wheel lock may have been partially engaged. The key will buy turn in the ignition if the steering wheel I locked. Turning the wheel slightly will allow the key to turn freely.

I posted this in the other thread...
First issue, I forget what its called but there is a feature where the fog light in the direction you are turning will illuminate (When the headlights are on) when you engage the turn signal and or turn in that direction, supposed to help you see. Maybe this is it?
Second issue, one of the security features is the locking steering wheel when you turn the car off and remove the key. When the steering wheel locks, to turn the key when you want to start the car you have to turn the steering wheel left or right before turning the key. When you remove the key don't touch the steering wheel, it usually won't lock. However when most people get out of the car they use the steering wheel as leverage which locks it.

Just to support your theories there DU, I also think he has the fogs set up as "cornering lights" that are found in the HIDs I have on my 2011 Tig. In my case the HIDs were initially my DRLs, but a friend changed it to have my fogs as DRLs instead using VCDS. This does not effect my cornering lights in the HID housing.
On your second point, I'd also say that turning the steering wheel a bit left or right will free up the ignition key.
Cheers!

I'd really like to know how to switch the DRL to the fog lights. That would be sweet. I don't like DRL but wouldn't mind the fogs running. Was this hard to do? How was it done? I assume with VAGCOM?

It's called Static Cornering Lights, the wife figured out that they were coming on when she turned, at that point I figured it had to be a "feature" and looked it up in the manual. They come on at speeds under 25mph to help light up a turn. And the ignition was locking with the wheel. Glad to find out we have no actual problems. I never got around to calling the dealer. So far I've only driven the car one day and to work one night, the wife hasn't let me have it again, lol, but I should get some time behind the wheel today.
