Maintenance/service 400?

Saw this light this morning but not sure what it means? It goes away after like 5 seconds

And now it's 300 so I assume this is regular scheduled maintenance? What needs to be done anything I can do myself even though I'm not mechanical? Current mileage is 24497. I also see another little picture of a circle with a squiggly line through it and it says 188 next to it.

Should I be worried?

whens the last time you had an oil change? it could be telling you "hey this many miles until your next Maint" if you had it done recently or its not due yet... take it to the dealer and ask'em about it it might be something as simple as resetting something that they forgot to reset when they did it last time

Sadly Ive never been to dealer - quite frankly I'm terrified of going there because of the cost. It's VW so I know Ill get raked through the coals. What do you guys usually pay for maintenace cycles?

Oil Change isn't due for another 3,000 I think. Im on 7k right now and the window sticker says another 3k?

The maintenance reminder is set to appear every 5,000 miles. I don't remember whether the interval can be changed to 10,000.
I just had my oil changed a couple weeks ago and it cost me $85. If you do it yourself it will still cost you around $50 because of the synthetic oil.
I used to change my oil, but at this point in my life, I'd rather pay someone to do it.

Ah okay so every 5k it will trip by default.

So is there anything special I should do with the existing Mileage or just have the oil changed?

Oil changes are free at my dealership so its all good

Like damionmyst said, it sounds like you just need to have the service reminder reset. Unfortunately, you'll have to ge to the dealer to do so or know someone with vag com that can do it for you.

Does the dealer have a Vag Com?

Does the VAG com tell you what the light is on for or just has the ability to reset?

yes the dealers have Vagcom and they can see what all codes you are throwing and can reset things

Will they put in other codes? Ie disable drl one touch unlock and remote window roll down?

HIGHLY doubt it...usually have to have a friend with VagCom/VCDS to do that for you

sythetics now a days can last up to 10k...but most users here change every 5k...7500 is pushing it for me...ive done it before...but i tend to play it safe with 5k's

I do oil changes at 5k only because most of my driving is in the city but factory recommended is at 10k.
