I have a question about the size of the oil pan ( how many qts ) that is. The oil pan I am asking about is on my 1986 VW Jetta 1.6L Diesel ME engine. The owners manual tells me it takes 4.7qts w/filter at oil change. I have the pan off and put (5) qts of water in it and it came within ( 1 ) inch of the lip where the gasket goes if that means anything. The reason I am asking is that I am going to the 36mm pump, Schadek oil pump SDK 1618823 Note: mentions that the 049103601 pan maybe required. I don't know what I have for sure but I am thinking I my need a new oil pan. Any thoughts on this more than welcome.

I don't know the size but keep in mind that if the engine holds 5 quarts max then when it's running the oil pan will NOT be holding 5 quarts of oil and will be much lower due to the oil being throughout the engine. So be sure the pickup tube is always in oil.
