taking 2.0 8v golf motor head swap 16v

hi guys i can get my hands on a 2.016v engine,wires,ecu from a 1991 passat here in canada. Yet it has 368k on it so im thinking of overhauling the head,and using a 2.0 8v golf block which is easy to find with lower k's on. what year or engine code will work,or will it work on my 1993 mk1 cabriolet 1.8 block. do i have a choice of blocks i can use?

I do not think an 8v block can be used with a 16v head. Two totally different designs. I looked into it for my car.

Plus these motors are very cheap and easy to rebuild...since you are planning to do head work, might as well go to the next step and build it.
