Ordered our Tiguan back on my wife's birthday, 9/29
A quick rundown of what we ordered:
2012 Tiguan SE AWD 4 Motion
Night Blue Metallic Ext
Black Leatherette Int
w/Sunroof and Nav
Monster Mat Kit w/Rear Liner w/cargo blocks
First Aid Kit
I spoke with our Sales Manager last Friday and he basically said the car still hadn't been made yet.....augh. After 45 days, I was hoping that it least it might be a skeleton or a pile of parts in the corner or something, but he way he made it said, it doesn't even exist yet. Does anyone know if there's any way for a customer to track this info or can only the dealers check into this? Anyone else order one? How long did yours take from the time of placing the order til you took delivery?
Once we get our Tiguan theres a few projects I'd like to look into for it and I'm hoping this has been tried and maybe someone can give a little insight/advice to me.
The only thing available on the SEL that wasn't available on the SE that we really cared about was the headlights, while I'm not really that concerned about the Bi-Xenons, it was the design of the LED running lights that really caught my eye. From what I've been able to find, it would have to be a pretty complex conversion to exchange them because it appears that the "adaptive lighting" or whatever its called ties in with a bunch of the car's other electronics. Am I right?(think I am, wish I wasn't) If I am, are there any other options that might give us the same/similar look or any other look for that matter?
My second "project" is exploring the possibility of installing a reverse camera. From what I've read online, the Radio/Nav is capable of being used for this, but there's some sort of reprogramming required to "activate" this option for the screen. It kinda looked like it was just a checkbox that needed to be checked if you have the right software and hookup. Does anyone have any details on this? Like, will the dealer so the reprogramming, how much does it cost, what would I need if I wanted to do this myself? There was also something mentioned about having to do something the the compass or the Nav will be messed up.
I'm also planning on putting some interior "accent" lighting in myself once I have a chance to look it over and plan it out. My parents bought a Ford Edge that had pre-installed color changing accent lighting, which I thought was pretty cool. I installed some interior lighting in previous cars I've had, that'll probably be my easiest project.
Anyway, getting really anxious, can't wait to get our Tiguan.

VW builds a model year vehicle from july to june. They also don't build cars to customers orders (so i'm told). They take in orders and whatever random order they make cars at the factory, the lucky duck who gets the matching tickets gets the car. So there have been many people that never get their build order vehicle because the mfr. just never produces it. If I were you i'd go find one you like and buy it. Y ou may wait until next june only to find they never will make it.

This better not be the case, the reason we had to order it was because there aren none in the VW system, being built, shipping, or on a lot anywhere in the US in the Model, Options and color combination my wife wants. I've already got money down on this thing, I sure as hell better get it. I'm not sure what difference what VW's production calendar is makes, July-June, March-Feb, Oct-Nov, whatever, they're still building cars 12 months a year.
I have to agree with Nitro. Unless there are a bunch of other Tiguans being built identical to what you want, I'm certain they won't build just one. This isn't Porsche where they build custom ordered cars. Also with the holiday season coming, you won't see your Tiguan until spring. I hope I'm wrong but good luck.

The only thing out of the ordinary in our setup was the interior color. Its supposedly available in two colors, Black and Beige. They had several listed with the beige but we wanted the black interior. It would just seem really odd if they can't change something as simple as the interior color on the fly. I mean, how can they call it an "available option" if they don't make any with it and won't make one that way upon request? Sounds more like an "unavailable option"
Have a look on MyTiguan and you'll find plenty of people are waiting up to 8 MONTHS to get the Tig they want in Europe !!!
Good luck

On my second Tiguan, 2013, TDi, Night Blue, Park Assist 2, RCD510, Bluetooth, auto wipers and lights, fogs, tow pack.
I'm not saying your Tig will not be made, but the configurations that have higher demand will be made first. The Tig has also gained a lot of popularity, so there is a high demand for the vehicle. VW is also one of the most popular marques in Europe, and as NZTiguan said, they're waiting a long time over there too. It's the same story with the Audi Q5 along with other models. That being said, I certainly hope you get yours in a timely fashion.

I ordered my Rabbit? Automatic 4dr, United Gray w/ sunroof and Art Gray interior didn't exist in the country. I waited 3 months. lol.

Where do you live Jester? I orderd the exact same car, 2012 Tiguan SE 4WD Blue/Black on 11/5/11 at Jim Wynn VW in Norristown, PA. They told me that 4WD's are in very short supply. There were no cars in the configuration that I wanted withing a 5 state area. My sales rep and his manager were able to take a look into the "pipeline" and found my car. It was still on the boat and sold to another dealer. My guy arranged to trade cars with the other dealer and swap the cars at the loading dock. I was told it would be here late Nov early Dec. I got an email today that the car will be here this weekend. I think your dealer did not do everything that he could have to get you the car. If you want I can hook you up with my salesman. He was great! At the very least tell your salesman about my experience at Jim Wynn.
I'm about 2 hours north of you, wtf? Did yours have the 4 Motion? That would be quite annoying, maybe you got my car, lol. If yours had the 4 Motion also, my dealer is gonna be getting a nasty phone call tomorrow.
Mine is also 4wd. I think your dealer owes you an explanation. Like I said my dealer went above and beyond to find my car. Good luck.
Ah, I didn't quite realized the 4 Motion was the 4WD, thought it was an upgraded version of the 4WD, didn't know how, but honestly I'm only a little bit of a car guy, so I wasn't sure. Yeah, I'm gonna call him right now.
Well, made a call. He doubts your claim.....yeah.....says he can't find your car in the system or on the boat in the computer. Seems to me like he was content to pocket my deposit and just wait around until my car comes or doesn't. At first he wasn't sure what I expected of him, apparently I wasn't clear enough that I wanted a car. Now he's saying that there's one sitting in stock at a New York dealership that might be available for me and he's gonna check into it. Augh. I might give your dealship a call. I might drive 2 hours to pick up what I want.

My story is true. Why would I make it up? My dealer did says there were some black/tan and white/black color combos available but he really did go thru all the trouble of tracking the car down for me. It's funny, my car could probably have been on the way to you instead of my dealer. I'm sure you're not laughing. Let me know how you make out. I will find out tomorrow if mine is at the dealer yet.
Yeah, I was like, what reason would he have to lie to me, he didn't even know how close we were when he told me this. I kinda look at it this way, he has more reason to lie to me than you do, lol. Of course the one in New York is already spoken for.
When I called, he said "Oh, I was just getting ready to call you". He said he's got a black one coming in that's exactly what I want.....except its black......so yes, obviously its exactly what I want.....except, ya know......it isn't.
I'm kinda tempted to call your guys in Norristown and ask if they can tell me where your car was supposed to be going. I almost have this weird feeling that my dealer traded my car away to you, even though that was the exact reason I had to put money down, to make sure it couldn't be taken from me. I'm really annoyed that after over a month and half, I called him to ask how the car was coming along and apparently all he did was look it up in the computer see it was still in the production lineup and relay that information. Your saleman went above and beyond, seems like mind didn't even bother to look at the top shelf. He tried to say to me at one point "Well, what would we do with your car that we ordered if I put you in a different one?" I'm like "You told me the car doesn't exist yet?!" and all he really had to say was "Oh yeah..."
I was keeping my impatience in check until now, but after today, I have to admit, I'm getting kinda annoyed. I mean, its great that you're getting your car and all, but its really quite annoying to discover that after waiting over a month and a half, I'm no closer to getting my car as I was 50 days ago and that someone else got exactly what I wanted in 2 weeks. My wife is REALLY![]()
When you get it, lets see some pics.
Update:
Well, HH's Tig doens't have the Sunroof and Nav....so I can't tear into my dealer too much. I'm still not quite happy since there was one in New York that was exactly what I asked for and he hasn't even continued trying to find one until after I called asking why he's not trying to find me a car while we play the waiting game with Germany. The New York Tig was already spoken for by the time he called about it. Apparently he was under the impression that we wouldn't accept a car that had any miles on it at all, while it would be nice to have an untouched car and my wife did briefly mention that when we put the order in, that wouldn't have been a deal breaker.
So.......back to the waiting game....

When I posted I know I came across harsh, but it's unfortunate that its the truth. I'm glad you called back and questioned it otherwise you may have never gotten it! Like I said before just find one you like and go for it.

We got lucky. Intercepted an SEL at port and had it diverted to OR in two weeks. Sales told us that we got super lucky, like winning the lotto lucky, because it was exact specs of what we wanted. Also told us (two days ago) that Tig's are in such high demand in Euro that they are slowing production to the states until they fill the orders there. Looks like VW can't start producing them in the states fast enough.
Yeah, would have liked an SEL but I didn't want to pay the extra. The extra features on the SEL are cool but they weren't "must-haves" so we opted for the SE.
