I drove my new 2012 Tiguan SE 4Motion home tonight. Rainy night here so I really treated her gently, saw 2 accidents. The handling is superb, I can tell that I made a right choice. I plan to continue breaking in the engine, brakes and tires gently, no fast starts or sudden stops. I hear that will really extend engine life. I plan to keep the car 10 years so I am considering the 7 year extended warranty, not sure just yet. Opinions would be appreciated.
*Jester - the dealer was able to intercept the car back far enough in the "pipeline" that they are the "Sold To" and "Shipped To" dealer on the sticker.
Yeah, like I told you, no biggie. It's not exactly the same car, so it was a moot point.
i guess i was lucky. i found a dealer in westchester county, n.y. that had 10 2012 tigs in stock, the most anywhere, about two weeks ago. i got a black/tan 4 motion se. i had a list of 7 dealers. most didnt have any or one or two i didn't want because of color or were either an s or an sel. all said supplies of tigs were tight. i got a $439 a month lease 36 months 10k miles zero out the door under sign and drive and they took my 2009 passat wagon that i owed $1850 on remaining five months of lease. a great vehicle and a really great deal.
Ok, bumping my post back up a little bit.
I have heard from quite a few people regarding the first part of my post regarding wait time for ordering my car, but no one has said anything about my other two inquiries. Headlights and back up camera, any comments or suggestions?
Well, I got a call from my dealer today, I was kinda excited when I saw his number and even more excited when he said he could give me an actual delivery date, however, my joy was soon deflated when he told me the date, which was March 5, 2012. Needless to say, the wife is, to put it mildly, not happy.
I decided to give your dealership a try HH. I called down, spoke with Bob, one of the salesmen. After giving him the information on what we were looking for, he said he'd call me back within a half hour after he checked into what he could do. He called me back in about 15 minutes and told me he could have me my car by the end of the month or the 1st week in January. So, it looks like we'll be giving Bob a shot. I'll keep you updated.
March 2012? Give them the finger, get your money back, right a bad review, and go get your car somewhere else. That's ridiculous and I am sorry your women is pissed, that's the worst. I hate it when sleezy sales reps give VW a bad name.
After discussing it with my wife last that, thats pretty much our stand on it as well. Waiting to hear back from Bob to sort out the details.
Jester: I think you will be happy with Jim Wynn Volkswagen. I hear they are one of the top 50 dealerships in the US. The will throw in free inspections during the first 3 years. the pricing was also the best that I could find. I got their bottom line price on the first quote. They would not go any lower. I hope it all works out for you.
I didn't hear from Bob tonight, hopefully I'll hear from him tomorrow. I'm hoping they'll be more helpful down there than our dealer has been up here. If you don't mind me asking, what price did you pay for yours? The company I work for is actually affliated with VW and they have a "supplier discount" program, so I get any VW for invoice thru the program. I'll let you know how things pan out as they come along.
Jester: my 2012 Tiguan SE 4Motion was $29,200 including destination. I bet you get your car before Christmas. What is the name of the other dealer? You'll be glad you contacted Jim Wynn VW.

Well, unfortunately Bob couldn't help us out. The one he found wasn't available and/or it wasn't exactly like we wanted, so we're kinda up the creek without a paddle(or Tiguan if you prefer) at this point. I hadn't called our dealer yet, so it looks like we wait....augh. We are not happy.
I think you might have to settle for a slightly different tig:/
I wouldn't settle. Get what you want or you'll have regrets. It sucks that you'll have to wait that long but that's the price you pay for a popular vehicle. Think of it this way, you'll be able to have x-mas again in March.

Or at least have VW lend you a car for the time you're waiting for them to get their stuff together
We don't need them to lend us a car, we have my wife's old one and it still runs perfectly fine. It's just getting old and up there in mileage and the Tig will work better for us once our little bun in her oven arrives in the summer. Yeah, she kinda wanted to tell our local dealer to shove it, but I calmed her down. She's mad about having to wait til March now, but its either that or she doesn't get her Tig the exact way she wants it. She feels like we've been jerked around, but I'm a little more forgiving. I mean obviously what we want isn't available anywhere. I've looked online all over the country and can't find one, so while it is annoying that our dealer can't get it quicker, I'm at least a little more at ease knowing its because it simply doesn't exist. But we will get it eventually...augh...
And BTW HH, nice looking car.
Sales men are one of the biggest issues when trying to get the car you want. I wanted a blue 5spd rabbit, nothing else. Dealer only had red and gray. I did a very quick search on vw's website and found a blue one about an hour drive from me. The next day, the sales man said he couldnt find a blue one within 3 states. So i went to the other dealer in the same state and bought the blue one. The sales man at the other dealer even drove it down to me and took my trade in back up. Later that day i drove by the dealer in my city and showed off my new car to the sales man that said he couldnt find it. The manager was not happy. Sorry, that was a little long.
