    98 Beetle Help....

I just picked up a SUPER nice clean 98 Beetle. It has a few things I need to figure out. The passenger door will not open. It has a blue light on the dash that looks like a low washer fluid light but its full. How do you get to the tailight bulbs? It also needs a headlight bulb. I can see that but my hands are way to big. The car has 261K miles on it but runs and drives great, has had a new motor. Thanks for any info.

    Re: 98 Beetle Help....

Probably needs a door latch. Blue light is when the coolant temperature is 60C or lower. Normal operating temp is 80C or higher. There is no washer warning lamp. On the inside of the trunk remove two plastic round panels. Unscrew the big nut and use a pry stick on the outside lamp lens closes toward the middle of the vehicle and pry outward. It's HARD, take your time. The headlights are a BITCH. You might break the tab that locks the lamps in. Not a problem just buy new ones at the dealer. They ALWAYS have them in stock because they always break. You remove the headlight assay, don't try and do it in the car.
