New car smell

I remember what a great new car smell the Volkswagen's had in the mid-late 1960's. Is there anywhere we could buy air-freshener that smells like that anymore?

Dunno what it smelled like but they sell "new car scent" air fresheners.

how nostalgic. i love the way beetles from the 60's smell now. vintage smell.

This is an interesting thought, really. European cars of, say, 15 years or older do always have a similar very unique smell. American cars from the 60s and 70s have a very unique smell too. As strange as it may sound, I've always wondered about this. Toyotas always seem to have a completely similar smell too.

^ YES. And it's really hard to accurately describe what you're smelling. "Oh, this is a mix of Polyvinyl Acrylate and high density recycled rubber" LOL

My sense of smell is off-the-charts sensitive. I remember so many smells from my childhood, like riding around in my mom's 1974 Super Beetle with sunbaked interior... or sitting in my dad's jet boat, the way the fuel smell mixed with the upholstery, etc. And it is impossible to describe them so that someone else could understand.
