Hi, thanks for reading. I'm about to go look at a 65 bug that has recently been restored within the last 3 years. I have loads of pictures from the owner showing how solid the bug is, my only concern at the moment is that this bug has no heating. This was not refitted after restoration, is this common to avoid future problems by eliminating it totally? I don't mind it too much as I am hoping to only use the bug during the summer. Does this affect the efficiency of the engine in any way, by not having a thermostat? I like the idea of not having future problems but I'm not too sure how this affects the car. Top money is being asked for it, so need to make sure I'm doing th eright thing in looking at it. It's a stunner though! Thanks in advance

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by no heating. It's air-cooled so it doesn't have coolant or a thermostat for coolant. What part was not installed back into the car? The engine cooling fan from what I understand blows air through the exhaust fins and brings that air into the cabin......

Yeah, my understanding is something like that. It takes heat from the cowl that the oil cooler sits in in later years (not sure if the 65 had the oil cooler or not). As far as it being an issue, I don't think so... you wouldn't be turning the heat on in the summer anyways so that stuff would stay closed.
