Well I did some extensive calculations for the trip down to fla...
The first fillup was in NC somewhere, I had travelled 362.3 mi and burned 11.8 gallons, that was averaging 67mph. The second fillup was in Georgia, I travelled 323.9 miles burning 12.3 gallons, that's averaging 76mph..the whole trip I averaged 28-29mpg calculated. And from Georgia to the house was at an average of 66mph.
So keeping the speed to around 70-75, mileage will be awesome, hitting 80-85 will KILL the mileage...
Oh and I was not using cruise control...because I don't have it.lol

....
VW Rabbit is no economical car. Focus on something else.
Sorry I'm tired...
It may not be an economy car, but on my last fill up I got a little over 27 mpg in a combination of 75 mph turmpike, road constructipn bumper to bumper and some around town. I do not want to give up my Rabbit for one of those 40 mpg little cars from Korea.
exactly....when did anyone buy a VW for fuel economy (other than a diesel)? It lasts long and it has its getup and go.
I just bought an '08 in Chicago and drove it back home down I-65 to Tennessee at 80 in cruise. it averaged 26. The odometer is at 66k and i drive maybe 8k miles a year, all rural roads,so i'm hoping it'll get used to rural driving ( never over 60, etc.) and improve. My '98 Jetta always got 31 a gallon. needless to say it's a pretty big change. I like Chicago but i couldn't wait to drive my new baby the h-ll out of it.

$50 to fill mine.
Trust me I'm a plumber
$56 dollars for a fill up in soflo. ridiculous considering it lasts me 5-7 days.
My overall average since November is 28.4, running stock at the moment. Hope to get a little better after I install an intake. I have tried non-ethanol gas and saw no improvement. A lot of my driving is around 60mph, with a few stops.
08 Rabbit
89 Corrado (sold)
Intake and C2 tune running low grade gas gives me around 28.6 average. if i go up to 91 which the tune was designed for, it goes up a few to 30.1 (according to fuelly)
Again though, this is assuming no more than 5 hard, 0-whatever pulls on each tank of gas. More, and the fuel economy suffers, but I usually mentally prepare to eat gas if i plan on having a bit of fun on the weekends.
We'll have to see what the turbo, SRI, coils and wheels have to say about my fuel economy however.
I was doing ~24mpg when I lived in Flagstaff, AZ (7000', temps from -7F to 90F, mostly city driving, with weekend trips to Laughlin/Vegas/Grand Canyon) to between 27 and 32 now on the East Coast (0', temps from 20F to 100F, mostly back roads driving, some weekend trips to Virginia Beach/NYC/DC). Pretty good considering the '02 Prius we just bought is getting 42-46mpg, in the same conditions. I've noticed that the car downshifts a lot in cruise, so I usually use the manumatic to force it to stay in higher gear as long as I can. Someone might be able to comment on whether that's a bad idea or not.
I got between 29-30 mpg last tank, with 87 octane (ethanol free). Was at 405 miles when I gassed up again. I find that all it takes is shifting around 1500rpm, and staying right around 60mph on the interstate. It's very hard for me to drive the speed limit, but I think I'm getting the hang of it...
2008 Rabbit 2DR, 5-speed
I get around 20-23 mpg. That is with 91-87 octane. I have a four door with 53000 rounds on it.
By the way a very fun little car and can't wait to teach my almost 15 year old son how to drive it.
hitting right around 25 these last few fillups.
08 5 speed 2 door w/ 60k miles .. getting 26mpg on average. i drive 90 miles a day to/from work, half freeway (70+ mph) and half city (35 - 50mph). Running 87 octane.
