oil changes are relatively easy to do on these cars. what engine type do you have?
dbc has great deals on "Service" kits; and if you go with one of their kits, you know you'll be getting a VW approved (502.00+ spec) fully synthetic oil.

welcome to the VWOC and enjoy your stay...

also, this little tip for draining oil out of the oil housing, comes in handy. otherwise the oil leaks out of the top of the housing when you unscrew it:
and regarding the engine cover (which doesn't have to be taken off for the oil change), lift at the quadrants closet to you, first. then proceed to lift the back quadrants to free the cover. there are only four points at which the cover connects to the top of the engine.

thank you but i went to the dealership, and got it done and they pi$$ed me off cause it took them 3hrs to do it GRRRR.....
^^ that's not bad. i was out for close to seven hours once. just for an oil change. they dropped me off at my office in the morning, then seven hours later they called and told me the driver was going to pick me up from my office to bring me back to the dealership; and proceeded to tell me that i needed to bring it back the next day. i told them straight out, "uh no, it may be a complementary oil change, however, it's extremely inconvenient for me to bring the car back tomorrow. i'll just do it myself."
when i got there, they told me they were going to have my car ready. so i waited there another 45 minutes and got my car that night...
15-20 minutes when i'm ready to do it myself is a lot better than 1-3 hours when it's convenient for them...
