The fenders have faded to gray. A friend said i should try heat treating of some sort to restore the the polymer to its orginal dark colour. Anyone know how to solve my problem?

Wait, what? Take a picture of what you are talking about. If the fenders have faded then you need new paint. Or are you talking about something else?

Does you car sit in the sun? Are there white lines around the faded spots? How old is the car?

Sorry for the confusion but its just the rear bumper. Its not metal like the rest of the cars body. It is some type of plastic. it has faded in colour. the front bumper is the exact same material and hasnt faded at all as u can see here......its a '95 by the way
just remove, clean, prep, paint...
the sun is terribly hard on plastics....

Thanks for the advice Leon...do u know what type of paint i should use on it? Something easily available to me and cheap??
you can probably use any spray paint can that you can get from walmart if you want cheap. the only thing that i'd recommend is using a plastic adhesion promoter (primer for plastics) before spraying your coat of black paint.
one thing i have found is that the cheaper spray cans have not so good nozzles that don't give the optimum spray pattern...
