    Question Engine Identification

I recently purchased a cabin with a garage. I've been trying to identify some older cars and parts that were in the garage. I know nothing about VW engines, but looking at pictures on the internet makes me think this is from a late 60s or early 70s bug. Does anyone know if I'm in the right ballpark? See the below pictures. I'm trying to determine if this is scrap steel or if it might have any value.

    Re: Engine Identification

First thing I would do to deturmine if it's junk would be to put a ratchet on the crank bolt and see if it turns over. I would guess that what You have there is a very early 60's bus engine, by the what looks to be an air cleaner in the pic's and the twin exhaust pipes. Glass bowl fuel filters are a thing of the past long ago! Just above the crank pully (on the engine case) where the two halves meet should be Your engine number, this number can be identified. Also with the voltage regulator mounted on the generator most likely is a 6 volt set up. Look closely to see if the regulator stamped <6 volt> Good luck, and thanks for sharing!
