Hi everyone I have a 2001 Beetle. I was driving it today and the coolant light came on. However it is not overheating. The coolant level was a little low so I added coolant . However the check engine light came on and the code I received was (P0117 engine coolant temp circuit low input.) Does anyone know where that circuit is located ?

Is the coolant light orange or red? Static or flashing? Did you check the coolant after the car had been off for awhile?

The coolant light is red flashing. The check engine light also came and I connected the diagnostic machine and got a code (P0117 Engine coolant Temp circuit low input) I have a feeling its the electrical connection at the coolant reservoir. I'm not to sure though would you happen to know ?
I did check the coolant level when car was off and it was very low. I refilled it drove it for a while and still get the red flashing coolant light. It shows no signs of overheating not worried about that.

You totally edited your original post after I responded to it, LOL. The information you added changes things. First, I would say do not assume it's just the electrical connection. When I had a 2001 Beetle I had a similar situation once. When I called the dealership, they told me to refill coolant and get to them ASAP. I brought it in and it turned out that my water pump and thermostat were the problem. (Thankfully it was pre-owned certified and under warranty so I didn't pay to have it replaced.) But, you don't want to end up stuck on the side of the road. I'd play it safe and call the dealership, see what they say.
