You drive a tig with a 2.0t? If yes the premium....detonation leads to cracked cylinders...and a big bill.

If you care at all about your Tig, you'll put nothing less than 91 in in...

I just got my new 2011 SE Tig three weeks ago and I will use nothing but recommended high octane per my user manual. I have read prior threads on this issue here and as a result I want to maintain the optium performance of my Tig. What a feeling when that Turbo takes over on the engine. I can not bear the thought of reducing the performanbce with a lesser grade octane.I highly recommend you USE THE BEST ALWAYS!

I use premium because I am trying t put the best in my beloved whip... but I find it very hard to believe that using regular (which the manual states is ok) would cause something like cracked cylinders. If that was possible, why would VW say you can use regular?

Look on the inside of your fuel door....91 prem required...


And yes in a boosted engine low octane can result in serious knock and crack a cylinder...this isn't something I've made up.

This is accurate. At least for the FSI. You can run 87, it will switch to a different timing map, and you'll lose HP and fuel economy. Your fuel economy loss will exceed the cost difference in putting 93 in it. Let's say you put 10 gallons in. That's an extra $2.00. That's a half a gallon of gas, so if you get an extra 13 miles, you've made up the cost difference.

It's fine, 91 or higher, just not lower.
