2011 Jetta SportWagen RNS 315 operation

I am a new 2011 Jetta SportWagen SE owner. I bought it with the Premium Package which has the RNS 315 system.
It seems like to use the NAV system, the radio has to be on as well :-( I couldn't find any instruction otherwise. Is there anyway I can turn off the radio when using the NAV system ?

Turn the volume down while the nav is not talking and turn the volume up when the nav is talking. This should fix it. I'm not too familar with this nav so someone else might have another suggestion.

Just hit the Mute button

from your steering wheel.... while the Nav is talking..turn the volume up...then turn down your radio...there is also away to set default volumes but cant think about it off the top of my head
