Just wondering how many of you bother with traction control on packed snow or slushy roads? I've had it turned off all winter because its behaviour was amusing but unpredictable. I even had it spin me once when it re-applied the power mid corner :-)
The VW system doesn't seem very sophisticated. It seems just like the one on my old Honda that simply cuts engine power when it detects slip rather than doing proper torque vectoring. I reckon it's one of those last minute additions that was bolted on because of some silly legislation.
i keep it on unless i want to slide into a ditch or the sidewalk, it wouldn't help you get traction when there's none
I only turn it off if I am stuck in deep snow and trying to rock it out, or something like that. Or would turn it off if driving on sand.
We've had a lot of snow since I got mine in January, and I think the traction control has handled beautifully. So well, it's almost not fun to drive in the snow anymore.

Hate to tell you, you may think you've had it turned OFF all winter but the first time you went over 20mph it came back ON !!
On my second Tiguan, 2013, TDi, Night Blue, Park Assist 2, RCD510, Bluetooth, auto wipers and lights, fogs, tow pack.
without it, the stock tires are absolute garbage and stopping on them isn't much fun either
I have HEX-USB-CAN for anyone within 100km of my location, Guelph,ON CA
to me, traction control doesnt get me un-stuck, it does prevents me from spinning way too much to hit the curb
just so you know, mine turns on regardless the speed i'm at
I've never had luck with just spinning tires

I have an 08 Rabbit, I turn it off everytime I have stopped, otherwise I wont get up walking speed! It like my car has an anchor on it! Once moving I have to put it back on or my ass end wants to act like a rear wheel drive. i live in Canada, winter in this car is 3 months of hell!
