Repairing rabbit door handles with lock

At ... http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3496179 ... is a wonderful HOW TO repair exterior door handle locking mechanism on the rabbit ... and others. One of my handles on my pickup does not work with the ignition key, but other one does.

Took both sides out today and noticed the coding numbers on the part. So thought it'd be easy to simply pull out the working one's 'links' and verify the numbering system in order to adjust the non-working one.

Nope ... not the way it 'appears' to work ... at least on my 'good' handle. The embossed code is Greek to decipher; and the number sequence seems irrelevant.

Does anyone know the secret code to translate what is stamped there?
Or is it just a case of switching the links around until you have an order wherein all the links remain depressed when key is inserted?

Along with the 2 I mention above, I also have a spare with working lock ... not to my ignition unfortunately. Also took it apart, and noted same as above.

    All ideas welcomed...
    TIA

Re: Repairing rabbit door handles with lock

Well the easiest way take it to a lock smith and let him re-pin it for you.
Other wise you are going to have to go to a wrecking yard and get a bunch of handles and take the (pins) out so that you can match the pins up and then place them in your non-keyed door lock.

A Locksmith can re-pin it for you in about 3 minutes.

Other wise you have to take your assortment of pins and match them up.

What happens is that the original handle broke.
They bought a replacement that came with a set of Keys, instead of taking out the one phillips screw and removing the lock assembly, they just changed the handle.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee and Cars all have in common?
They all Start with good GROUNDS.
Replace all of them that you can, 99 percent of flakiness will disappear.

I agree with Briano, take it to a locksmith, and it literally does take 3 minutes to re-key it. Its way easier than trying to match pins (which I've tried to no avail)

I wanted my hatch key to match the doors and had no clue how to do it. Took the lock off and messed with the pins from some spares and got it to work. It was easy.
