Tiguan Head Lights don't turn off automatically????? Help!

Hi. I bought my daughter a Tiguan several months ago. What I didnt realize was that the headlights do not turn off automatically. Today the dealer had to replace the battery because she keeps leaving the lights on. (Her last car they went off automatically.)

What other 2011 cars do this? This seems primitive!

Does anyone know if it is possible to change this??????

Re: Tiguan Head Lights don't turn off automatically????? Help!

First, welcome to VWOC. I'm going to assume you didn't get her the SEL model. The SEL comes with the auto headlights with coming home feature (Lights turn off after a period of time.)

I know on my Rabbit, with a new headlight switch to allow off/parking/on plus fog (front and rear) and some VCDS (Vag-Com) programming I was able to enable the Coming home feature. However, this feature works differently in some models which may require you to turn the lights off first, the flick the highbeam stalk. If this is the case with the Tiguan it's pretty much pointless. I don't have to do this in my Rabbit though. If I leave the lights on I set them to turn off after 30 seconds.

Knowing what trim the Tiguan is may help a little.

More info on the code changes needed to enable coming home can be found here. Though it's for the 09's. Not sure if this completely works for the 2011 models, nor am I sure a dealer would change this for you. You'd likely have to find someone in your area that has the Vag-Com cable.
