Got my lower bracket prototype built for a Single Pole Gm Alt. I wanted something a little different and easy to replace.
Pleased... might make some changes. Actually works really well. Still got to CAD the upper bracket-
Its a little beefy but I should never have to worry about it LOL.
Used a bit of wire to line it up with the waterpump pulley-

The older bracket has a bushing to center, so my question is is there any slop to it? It looks really great.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee and Cars all have in common?
They all Start with good GROUNDS.
Replace all of them that you can, 99 percent of flakiness will disappear.

No slop. It is dead on centered.
I never really understood the reason for the adjustable bushings. If its centered isn't it always centered? Most alt mounts for other vehicles don't have this adjustability... why did VW feel they needed add this to our bunnies?
Thanks for the props sir!
As I understood it it was to accommodate a variety of manufacturers of alternators. As there was a deffinative size difference between the 90 and 60 amp Bosch, vs Motorola, that most of the Westies used originally.
My thinking was with you that if it was a better mount then they wouldn't of needed that bushing. They have the same set up on the frigging ac compressor too.
I was going to ask earlier if that was a standard pulley for that Alternator? As it looks more like the older a/c less alternators.

Yeah... its a brand new Bosch 30mm offset pulley for a short shaft/non-ac alt. Fits perfectly with zero mods. I did find I can add washers to the back side of the pulley if I need to fine tune the alignment.
Stayed up super late last night and whipped the upper bracket CAD. Works perfectly!!!! WOOT!-

Great build thread... I really like what you've done. I'm impressed with that VHT WrinklePaint- I didn't know it existed but what a great look. And you were not kidding about how much it hides. What are you planning on for body/paint?
2008 United Grey Rabbit / 1991 Capri Green Golf projekt
No proper plans for paint. Likely rock a satin poof can finish. Its a work truck after all!
Thanks for the props!
Made up a full size cut out of the profile of the intake to get an idea of how it will look. Wanted to make sure it was all laid out correctly and there were no issues. Its bang on!!!! You can see how the top pf the intake is almost exactly the same height as the VC-
I will concern myself with how level the carb mounts are once I get the plenum built and mounted to the motor.

Got bored and started playing with the stance. 19" to the fender flare lip all the way around-
So low that I can't adjust all the toe in out of it without shortening the tie rods even more-
If only this was possible to roll this low-

You know you got it bad when you pimp out your tools
Silver flake bitches!!!:P
Ok... the truth is my fat ass broke the board in the base of my HF creeper. I like the creeper a lot so I remade the base out of ply. Since I was at it I thought I would make the cover out of something fun. Thought about some sort of "skin". I hit up a local upholstery shop and they just happen to some scrap that was perfect. Now it matches my truck!
Ok.... made a few changes to my original idea. This is now a fully functional bolt in 4 link. Bags (red areas) will be UA Air House's. Very compact and only have 5" of lift. Perfect match for the fronts. Any more it will just look dumb. The axle (2.5" square stock) will also have drop plates built in. This will help me dial in the stance no matter what kind of wheel/tire I run-
Let me know your thoughts. Keep in mind there is more to this than is pictured. I still need to work up some pockets for the inner link bars. Shocks will mount rear of the axle in an upside down V from the center of the truck down to the axle.
Enjoy!
This thread is awesome. Cheers to a great build! Can't wait to see more!
