Welcome to vowc!!! If you haven't already you need a new timing belt and water pump. Perform the 40k service if you have not done so in the past 40k miles. This includes spark plugs and all of your filters to be replaced.

Sounds Simple enough... Any suggestions for improving performance? What about chipping? worth the money/time? How hard is it to do?

Because you have a turbo, a chip will increase performance by A LOT. Even a Stage I boost will be inexpensive, give a nice boost in power, remove the speed limiter, and increase fuel economy. go with Unitronic for your car.

If its a 2.0 non turbo then you have alot of stuff to do to gain some power. First a chip is something you have to buy, id say get a c2 or techtonics chip with a new camshaft for better flow. Changing out the cam is like a 9.5/10 on the difficulty scale and needs precaution, so unless your friend is a pro you can take it somewhere. On that motor its easier than most.

Then, intake and exaust work well coupled with a chipped/cammed 8v.

Yup just like i thought. Unless youre going to drop alot of money, power gains are minimal...Ive seen 130ish whp from the 8vs with cams, tune, intake and exhaust.

If you don't have a turbo, don't bother doing anything. That engine is a lump of coal when it comes to power. It sure is reliable though!

Id agree here...unless youre adding a turbo.
