Cool! I wonder if this will put a damper on Eos sales.

Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet: to debut with Golf 7 in 2012
The new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet will debut in 2012, the same year the new Golf 7 is set to be revealed. Despite this, the Golf Cabriolet will still be based on the current Golf generation, the Golf 6. The cabrio marks the third model of its kind and will be a four-seater, with soft roof. The boot capacity will be 300 litres and the central rollbar of previous versions will disappear.
In replacement the Golf Cabriolet will feature two small rollbars under the rear headrests. A new air flow system, similar to the Aircap on the Mercedes E-Class Cabrio, will be implemented to reduce air turbulence for rear passengers. The Golf Cabriolet will have the same engine range as the current Golf 6, will the petrol 1.2-litre TSI with 105 hp, the 1.4 TSI-litre with 122 hp and the 2.0 TSI with 211 hp.
On offer among the diesels will be the 1.6-litre TDI with 105 hp and the 2.0 TDI with 140 hp. All engines will have the DSG gearbox with either six or seven speeds, and the BlueMotion package could be included, too.

im fairly sure the eos will die with this car. Just make the 2.0t with the same package as the eos and pricepoint and bam same car. Cant compete with yourself.

This would have to be priced inline with the Beetle Convertible, otherwise what's the point in having it and the Eos?

Could go either way. I see this competing more with the Beetle convertible since they're both soft tops and would be in the same price range. After all they stopped the Cabrio when the Beetle convertible was introduced. Since the Eos has a convertible hard top and is more expensive, I see it attracting an older crowd while the Beetle and Cabrio a younger crowd so I think there's room for both the Eos and either the Cabrio or Beetle. I guess it all comes down to sales though. I don't see too many Eos driving around so they may kill it anyway. Perhaps they should bring the Scirocco then and bag the R20 (if that ever comes here).

All I have to say is job security. These things are bound to leak like every other VW convertible.

mine doesn't leak. there's a gap between the front and rear window on the passenger side, if it rains torrentially sideways i get a few drops on the seat. that's it.

no, it doesn't "leak." my friend's TTR leaks, water seeping in whenever it rains. this has nothing to do with the top either, it's the window. my top is fine.

I'm gonna miss the roll bar. It's lots of fun to sit on and use as playground equipment.
Wow... the sixth generation didn't last long. Two years of Mk6 then right on to Mk7. Is this one going to be a Rabbit in America or are they sticking with the Golf nameplate for the next generation as well? And I hope the Mk7 GTI doesn't look as ugly as the Mk6. Not that it matters because I won't be getting a new car anytime soon :D
