wow, this is the first time i've heard of this. do you have an abundance of keys on your key-ring or something?
Well today after a trip to the grocery store, went to leave and my key would not go into the ignition. After closer investigation, it looked like a plastic utensil had been broken off in the tumbler, or that it was falling apart internally. Anyways, I got the car towed to the dealership, they tore into it and told me that the "S" contact in the back of the ignition had come apart. The "S" contact is the part of the ignition that verifies that your key is the correct key for your vehicle.
So, the dealership said the ignition assembly is special order from Germany, due to the fact that it has to be built and programmed to your specific VIN number of your vehicle. I was given a estimate of 14 to 30 days for the wait and installation. . . .at least I'm getting a loaner car!
And the totoal price for parts, labor and tax: = $249.91 (not too shabby!)

In my old car (the reason for upgrading to a rabbit) My key never came OUT of the ignition. The car had a short in a sensor somewhere and the car never thought it was in "park" and would never spit that key back out...

That is a long time to wait. Reminds me of a friend who used to have a Jetta VR6, his brakes went out and he got in a wreck. They had his car for nearly a month and a half...
Hope you get your bunny back quicker than expected. What kind of loaner did they get you?
Only on a 06 rabbit could you have such a special problem.
Yeah I own a rabbit. How does it drive? I wouldnt be able to tell you.

TSB for this too. the dealer is supposed to give a loaner assembly to the customer until the parts come in. I guess they didn't have a loaner lock cylinder so they gave you a rental instead!

Well, I got my loaner. . .The service manager said there were no 2011 Jetta's a vailable, so instead I got a 2010 Suzuki Kizashi. It's not the biggest piece of crap, but it is a Suzuki. Anywhoo, my wife will be driving it, not me! Also the dealer said this was only the second one of these they have seen. But the part has been ordered from Germany, and ordered "red" which is high priority. I'll keep you updated.
