problem with the internet....

I normally have a few tabs and or pages open with IE8. My computer is pretty quick and I have 2GB of ram. Now, there comes a point where every so often I'll have a few tabs open and when I go to open a 2nd or 3rd tab, the page just hangs indefinately. I can wait a minute or an hour and it will just keep "thinking" through this entire period. If I close out of everything and open just that one page I could not view, it opens right up. What could be causing this? I'm a delete cookie/kill IE temp files whore so that's not it.

For the 11dybillionth time...firefox is NOT compatible with any of the websites I need for work and training. IE is the most widely used and common internet browser. There should be no reason it keeps failing.

ya ie blows. i use firefox or safari depending on my mood. but ie crashes freezes and geeks out in general all the time for me.

No problems with IE here. Make sure all updates are installed. Update Java, Flash, remove any toolbars if any. If I recall that laptop has Vista on it. Not sure if you can upgrade to more RAM, but with Vista it always helps.

Download a program called FreeRam XP Pro. It monitors and auto-clears your RAM. IE does suck. But I understand that VWHub requires it (well, for elsaweb at least). They make an extension for Firefox called "IETab" that allows you to switch the rendering engine of a tab over to IE - it has always worked perfectly for me, lets me run ActiveX controls in FF, etc etc, it basically is IE in a tab. It stopped working with FF 3.5, but if you get FF3.0 it should work just fine.

Use Firefox with IE Tab extension. What sites do you need that can't be used in other browsers? I have a few internal web based apps that require IE ( server backup admin console, and HP's iLO remote consoles) but otherwise IE is pretty much the worst.

Ok, so pretty much MS just really dropped the ball here and killed it. vwub.com which also contains elsaweb like dj said, vwwebsource.com , service net, vwtechsource, and the millions of other links within these sites....that 99% of you don't have access to. (DJ....)

More than likely the program is hanging and eating up a lot of system memory. Next time this happens do ctrl + alt + del and look at memory usage and organize the program list from most memory used to least. You will probably see that IE8 is using something like 100000k to 200000K to load a website. The problem is that IE is a system resource hog in my opinion.

What I would do is run a fresh install of IE8 on a with computer with 3GB+ ram (at least DDR2) with windows 7 or XP with an OK processor with minimal programs installed on the machine/ not loaded down with excessive media files or large files on the primary partition. Do not run VISTA bc that in itself will cause errors / problems.

I usually do not use a windows machine any more bc MS keeps getting worse and worse. Out of my 6 computers at home I primarily use my quad core Imac running snow leopard bc the system is so stable it can even run ms software smoothly (MS Office).
