Called dealer today. They are looking into getting the clip. New TSB# is 21-11-03. They said only 300 autos are affected.

^^ Kinda correct. Not sure where the 300 vehicles came from.... The TSB applies to ALL 2.0T TSI equipped vehicles from 2008-2012 in the VW brand.

I called a dealer today and asked about the potential fix I’ve read about for the acceleration noise. As usual, their first response is to shut down and say they’ve never heard of the problem. Fortunately for me, I’ve kept up with this forum and others on the web for well over a year, so I had lots of info to back them into a corner. I gave them the old TSB#21-10-01 that addressed the issue but didn’t provide a fix. The service manager reluctantly looked up it up and found that a new TSB came out this month (June ’11) outlining a fix. The new TSB# is 21-11-03. The service manager said according to this TSB the issue only affects 300 vehicles. The fix involves attaching a retention clip. The noise is caused by the turbo wastegate rod and actuator. I truly hope this fixes the problem. I would be happy with just a 50% reduction of the noise.
After more research, they found the part and ordered it. The modification is set up for next week. I’ll post an update along with the retention clip part number.
Could it be that the German to English translation is wrong? And that instead they meant that only 300 vehicle owners have reported this complaint noise?

06J145220A is the part number.
It does say "number of affected vehicles: 300" in the TSB. Kind of strange though.... Unless 300 clips are sent to the dealer per part number? I'm not sure....

My tech said that they are only offering modification to certain VIN#s.

The newest TSB states ALL VIN RANGES FROM 2008 - 2012 WITH THE CBFA AND CCTA ENGINES

this is awesome guys. I am coming up on my first 10,000 mile maintenance and plan to stop in there before hand to discuss this to communicate that I want this fixed at that time, to ensure they have the part ordered.
Please let us know how it turns out for anyone who gets this fixed applied.

I'm jazzed about the fix. I have an appointment for Tuesday the 12th of July. My dealer also had to look up the TSB but ordered the part after he read it. Thanks to this great forum the problem has been addressed. Years ago we all would have had to live with the problem.
I'll post the results next week.![]()
Have any Aussies on this thread contacted their dealer to discuss this new info? I called Norris motor group in Brisbane last week and they contacted Volkswagen Aust, they advised the TSB does not exist and there are no known issues with the 147kw Tiguan engine. I have been bringing up this waste gate rattle issue since 2009, each service the dealer advises it is normal.

Yes - I'm from Brisbane and I posted earlier in the thread. My dealer has not yet acknowledged there is a problem - had it for a year since new on our EOS.
I have just sent them latest fix details and part number and will let you know how I go.

I just picked up my Tiguan and it is quiet for the first time! The TSB works. I encourage all of you to talk to the dealer with the TSB #21-11-03 handy and schedule the repair. Good for VW for following this up. I also have to give kudos to VW of America customer service for calling me many time to insure that the problem was being addressed.

My 2011 SE 4-Motion makes the same noise at 2500 rpms. Told dealer about clip. Made an appointment. Dealer said they installed it. Still makes the same noise. How can I tell if the clip was actually installed? Tough to see back there. Besides, I wouldn't even know what I'm looking for anyway.

If the noise didn't change AT ALL then it was either not installed, installed improperly, or your noise is something different.
You would have to crawl under the car and look at the wastegate rod near the block side of the turbo and get a picture.
Look at your receipt from the dealer. it should show the part number of clip installed.

Thanks Nitro. There is a part number on the service receipt but I'd like to get under there and see the installed clip for myself. Do I need to remove any plastic skid plates to get a view of this clip? Where should this clip be in reference to the turbo unit?
Just bought my Tiguan (SE 4Motion) and have about 500miles on it. Noticed 2,500rpm noise around 250 miles. Found this Forum and now contributing.
Love the Tiguan other than this. I will be talking with the dealer about this problem. Does anyone have the latest TSB and is this fix working?

Great news!
VW Australia have confirmed the fix (clip on the waste gate rod) and my dealer has ordered the part. Resolution is at hand. Many thanks to everyone on this forum for their persistance and advice.

Got the clip, reduced about 75% of the noise, pretty good.
Now i miss the noise just a bit.
edit:
thanks nitro for keeping us informed.
