What manual do u know that has a filter?
Try germanautoparts.com for Oem fluid.

Re: filter -- ok I understand now that there is no filter, however, in my mind, a lubrication application will always create metal particles that you don't want to recycle through whatever you are lubricating, so a filter seems logical. But I am sure the german engineers have a very good reason for doing things the way they do, so i am not complaining. Besides, makes replacing the fluid really easy.
Thanks for the link.
No manual trans will have a filter because there is no pumping of the fluid to force it through.

I thought you guys were rocking the GM synchromesh fluid.

AFter doing more tests on it, it underperforms when compared to OEM.
There are several magnets inside the case so all steel particles will stick to it.

Hey guys, read through your thread. I actually have a 2008 jetta 2.5L with 5 speed. Its got 90k on it and i'm looking to change the gear oil. I've seen a few things suggested here. It seems the GM stuff has fallen out of favor. That leaves a tossup between the redline MT-90.
I saw OEM, Redline MTL, and Redline MT-90 fluid available on ecstuning.com.
So whats the best?
Second question, I read that you have to raise the front of the car to fully drain the fluid. How much do i have to raise it? will jack stands do the trick?

Yes. Jackstands will work perfectly.

I like to make my car unique in a subtle manner. So only the discerning individual will take notice.
Not MTL, that stuff isnt the spec weight anyways. Mt-90 is good, yet it is notchy when cold, i like it in my trans and when my new one goes in ive got 3 liters to go back in her.
OEM is very good however, its one of the better oe fluids.

Sorry to bring this back up.
But i'm a bit confused with the oils. Here's the two oem ones that i'm assuming are the better ones:
http://www.germanautoparts.com/Volks...smission/283/2
One is mineral based which it says is the 'original' gear oil and the other is synthetic.
'07 Jabbit - Raceland Ultimos - Carbonio - Flat Fives - BFI
The mineral one is oem straight from the dealer. The other is a very good oil company fuchs. The syntec is nice but if ur not doing anything crazy the oe stuff is fine.

2005 and newer (roughly) used synthetic gear oil in the transmission.

If anyone cares, here is the recommended filler hole.

Correct. The PROPER way to fill the MKV and MKVI is to drain it completely and put 1.7-1.9 liters in through the reverse switch. the angle is off and the fill hole on the side of the trans will actually underfill it SLIGHTLY. However, i've found there to be almost no difference in filling capacity between the two ways.
