Ok, so my car is in the shop....yet again. First problem was that the lower control am bushings needed to be replaced..fine covered under warranty...but have another problem...
While accelerating, my car ticks loudly from the front passenger side of the engine. It only happens when I hit the gas not when I am idle. I can even hear it above my radio.
I have a 2006 VW rabbit 2.5l. Anyone else having this problem with a rabbit? If so, what was the issues.
Any other ideas on what the problem could be?
thanks

Does it do it in park or neutral and you rev it? What oil have you been using? How often are the oil change intervals? When did it start happening? Are you sure it's the engine?

Havnt tried it in neutral but I had it in park and reved the engine and it made the ticking noise. Oil was changed about a month ago from the dealership. Same oil I have been using for 2 years. Oil get changed normally every 4 months or so...when its time.
Started happening Monday night. I got gass on the 14th so I dont think it is bad gas either.
Pretty sure it something under the hood making the ticking noise...just not sure what.
I should probably add that the sound happens after about 5-10 minutes of driving.

how well does your air conditioner work?
does it make this noise if your air conditioner is turned off?

Got my car back. apparently they think the ticking noise was a lose screw that fell out behind the passenger dash by the glove box. So they replaced the screw and hopefully I wont hear the ticking noise anymore.
However, they told me the squeaking noise would be fixed by replacing the control arm bushings. Heard the noise again when I got home tho...but am not worried since its kinda quiet...and seems to be only noticeable at idle.
I had a hyundai santa fe before the rabbit and it started ticking very loud when acceleration. Turns out i had to trade it in because there was sludge in the engine. It needed a whole engine swap. Hopefully this isnt the issue for you.

Nah....2.5's only sludge if you HEAVILY abuse them and do not change the oil for 20 or so thousand miles. Even then they really don't make much noise.

ticking is gone...but now there is a squeaking sound again from the passenger side. The noise is almost non existent when idle, but gets load/fast the faster I go. It takes like 10 minutes after the car has been sitting a while for the noise to happen.
Not sure what the heck is going on but I am really getting sick of all the problems. Never had a car with problems like this...

It's interesting.... I can have lots of leaks or mechanical issues but the noises bother me more.
It also depends on what you consider you a problem. My jeep make a boatload of noises but rarely had any mechanical issues. Does that mean it had problems?

Squeaking sound is loader now and bothering hte hell out of me. My roommate looked at it and he used to be a certified mechanic. Said that it sounds like one of the bearings on the alternator bet is going bad. The noise is coming right from the alternator and the belt is in perfect shape. Hopefully the its the bearings and its a warranty item.
and I agree, the noises embarrass me and thats why they bug me more. I hate it when I am driving with a loud car and everyone is looking at you...just dont like it!

Oooo...working on a customer car with a similar sound. His does it ONLY when u turn the car off. OR it's been happening at idle only. It only does it when hot and rarely ever when cold. EVERYTHING has been replaced except the a/c compressor. I'm thinking maybe you have a bad compressor also?
The alternators on our cars have a one way clutch in the pully which DOES NOT come with a new alternator. Remove the INNER belt and drive. Once the engine reaches 190 you MUST MUST MUST shut the engine off because the water pump will not be turning. If it still makes the noise, you can confirm its the a/c compressor.

So bring it back to the dealer and tell them to try again. You can use an automotive stethoscope to narrow down where it's coming from.

Resurrection, nut just wanted maybe get a followup...I have this ticking noise now in my wife's 08 Jetta. Stethoscope shows that it's loudest at the Alt. But it it's really loud at cold start, then diminishes, but still there, when warmed up.
Also 2.0L alt's are the same, but with different part numbers...cheaper too.
