Post RNS 510 w/Bluetooth Connectivity & Voice Recognition

    Hi!

I just purchased a US 2009 Tiguan. This one has the "newer" RNS-510 navigation system. (Phone button in lower left corner vs. mute button) I have a few questions that I wanted to see if anyone could help me with.

    1. I had no problems getting the bluetooth to work with my iPhone. However, the phone only shows on the screen with all of the regular options. My friend just purchased a new CC and it operates the same way, but he can access his phone book from the little menu on the dashboard. I cannot get mine to do that.

    2. Does anyone know how to check the firmware and see what firmware number i have?

    3. The manual does not give any instructions on operating the voice dialing using the star button on the steering wheel. Does anyone know how this works or needs to be set up? Also, does this only work for the phone or can it control the navigation as well?

    4. On the RNS-510, the options for adjusting the display are to do with the brightness. Is there any way to adjust colors? Once again, my friend has a new CC and his system colors look a little different than mine and I like his look better. More reds than grays.

    5. When adding MP3 files to the HDD, I cannot figure out something. If I insert a CD with MP3 files or a SD card with MP3 files, all of the music goes into a whole new folder on the HDD. (copying the entire CD or CD card) If I only choose one song and copy it, it will then go to the actual folder of my choosing. I want one folder with all of my music in alphabetical order. If I copy a CD, it makes a new folder within my chosen folder. Does anyone else have a problem with this? Is there something I am not doing right?

Thank you for reading and any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    hi,
    withregards to your quesions
    1. too many variables here to work out why.Even dealer fit bluetooth option vary - i have heard some with use VOLK-l ,others fiscon ,some skoda kits and that is from the factory fit option !
Also it also depends on your phone.Pair it with your friends unit is probably the easiest way to find out .

    2. Don't know -google will answer. I think rns510-B units are harder to access

    3. i thought the star button was just the mute button, correct me if i am wrong

    4. You can change these setting but you have to use Vagcom to reprogram internal parameters.Too complex for what it is worth

    5. Are these all MP3S? make sure there are no other filetypes in the folder as this can cause problems.

Thanks for the reply! The star button on mine does not mute. It activates the voice dial command. As far as changing the screen, that sounds like way too much trouble! lol As far as the mp3 files, it is only mp3 files I am burning to the CD.

    Thanks again!

The one that I have Skoda OEM Unit; however, it wasn't very nice in cetain cases.

    1. Only support the rSAP mobile phone (not all phone supported it)
    2. Missing the calls for 2 to 3 min when you pairing and leave the car
    3. All of newly recevived SMS stored in the Car durting Skoda unit paired time not in the phone
    4. Cannot trasfer the voice back from the Skoda unit back to phone when you want to leave the car
    5. Cannot read previous received SMS store in the phone after pairing the unit.
    6. If you phone has any data services such as MMS, email, Google MAP; you can't use at all. The phone isn't work for such applciation after paring Skoda unit.

I had the dealer install a VW Bluetooth about 4 months ago (donÂ’t know what was installed). In my case, the voice recognition works fine. My problem is how to make the car speakers ring when the phone rings. So far what I have to do is disable the BT function in my phone before starting the car, 3 minutes after the car is running I can connect BT and the speakers ring but only once. Not sure if the problem is with the Verizon Chocolate 3 or the BT in the car. Any Ideas?

I received information from my VW dealer on the voice commands if anyone needs a copy of the PDF file. I would be happy to email!

    Thanks!

Yes, I would like to have PDF manual. it requires to have the mobile phone support SAP to connect with in my Tiguan. If not, it will not able to pair. Also, all the SMS will store in the unit not the phone during jounrery paired with the phone.. (My phone is Nokia E71)..

    Mine came with Volk-L...

My Tig came with Volk-L installed. It requires me to actually use my phone to dial out even though my phone has voice recognition. With Volk-L, none of the RNS-510 phone interfaces/functions work. I wish the voice recognition worked.

On the steering wheel, the STAR button mutes the radio and the PHONE button answers incoming calls and hangs up incoming/outgoing calls.

Seems that your dealer installed something other than Volk-L, possibly a FISCON or SKODA unit. That was nice of them...

Yep, I'm officially jealous. My 2nd tig has the phone button on the nav and has a build date of March 2009, so it's newer, but didn't come with the bluetooth as it sounds like yours did. VWofA had the dealer install Volk L prior to me taking delivery, since this was a buyback and they were equipping with comparable items to what I had in Tig #1, with the whole pioneer system including the bluetooth. I would call Volk L anything but comparable. It's pretty much as bottom of the barrel as you can get.

2009 Tiguan SEL - PHONE BUTTON?!

I just purchased a 2009 Tiguan SEL with Navigation. I paid the dealer an extra $350 to install the Volk-L thinking that it would activate the Phone button on the navigation unit and I would be able to access my phone's phonebook and/or dial directly from the touch screen.

My question is: is there a different part that I should have asked them to install to enable this feature? I see posts referring to Skoda kits - are these available at a local dealer and do they fix this problem? Or is this a software issue?

When I called Volkswagen they didn't seem to know what I was talking about, so I'm really confused.

Any information would be very much appreciated!

CNJ, my take is you can forget expecting what you may have expected. Apparently, the 2010 version may have a bit more Bluetooth compatability but I'm not holding my breath.

I read somewhere about the Fiscon bluetooth addon for Tiguan. Search google for fiscon bluetooth and you will find lots of info. Looks real nice.

My dealer's attempt to install the 9W3 Factory Bluetooth solution failed miserably. 1) They could not get a clear connection. 2) They could not get the unit to recognize my phone book consistently. Also, when it did finally recognize it, the voice commands wouldn't work...response was "no phonebook found"!

They would up removing the 9W3 and re-installing the Volk-L. I'm not very happy, but they tried their best. VW even sent a tech from somewhere else to try to get it to work. Bottom line was that 9W3 is not supposed to be in a 2009 North American Tiguan.

How some of you have gotten this to work is beyond me. But, congrats to you if you did.

If it's still available, i would also like a copy for my 2012 Tig SEL. The owners manual is pathetic.
